Sebastian Jacob 'Jack' Durr
October 30, 1923 - March 28, 2017

Mr. Sebastian Jacob (Jack) Durr, Jr., 93, passed away on Tuesday, March 28, 2017. Visitation will be held from 10-11 am on Friday, March 31, at Osborn Funeral Home. Services will begin at 11 am on Friday in the Chapel of Osborn, with Pastor Jerry Dean officiating. Interment will follow at Forest Park Cemetery with full Military Honors.

Mr. Durr was born in Shreveport on October 30, 1923 to Sebastian Jacob Durr, Sr. and Ouida Gibson Durr. He graduated from C. E. Byrd High School in 1941. He attended Centenary College and graduated from Texas A&M College (now University) in 1945 with a B.S. in Aeronautical Engineering. He received his M.S. degree in Civil Engineering in 1948 from Texas A&M. He was a member of Kappa Alpha fraternity.

He served in the U. S. Army Air Corps during World War II achieving the rank of First Lieutenant.

Mr. Durr earned the Professional Engineer designation. His work experience included working for Sperry Rand Corp. in New York, United Gas Pipeline Company in Shreveport, Pennzoil in Houston, and Arkla Gas Company in Shreveport from which he retired as the head of the Engineering Dept.

He was an avid gardener and an accomplished artist. Mr. Durr was a perfectionist in all he did and appreciated quality in all he touched. His fine eye for detail was evident in his realistic oil paintings, his hand-made picture frames and his intricate wood carvings. He was a master at turning other people’s cast-aways into functional treasures around the home.

He was a devoted husband and wonderful provider to his wife, Margaret, for 48 years. He was a member of The Pentecostals of Bossier City and the Texas A&M Foundation. His walk with God deepened through the years by his and Margaret’s daily devotions. He often blessed mission work around the world.

Mr. Durr was preceded in death by his parents and his sister, Dorothy Durr Elliott and her husband, Dr. James J. Elliott, Sr.
He is survived by his wife, Margaret Doxey Durr; sister-in-law, Margery Doxey; nephew, James J. Elliott, Jr. and wife, Marie, Dr. R. Stephen Elliott and wife, Mary Ellen; nieces, Ellen Elliott Hitt and husband, Dennis, Debra Mills, Datha Hopkins and husband, Ted. Mr. Durr is also survived by numerous great nieces and great-great nieces and nephews.

Pallbearers will be James J. Elliott, Jr., Dr. R. Stephen Elliott, Joel Mills, Gerald Cheatwood, Richard Smith, Tim Borst, Malcolm Smoak and Ken Harris.

Honorary pallbearers will be Al Maddox, Dennis Hitt, Jaron Hopkins and Dr. James J. Elliott, III.

In lieu of flowers, donations can be made to The Pentecostals of Bossier City North American Missions fund, 2833 Viking Drive, Bossier City, LA 71111.
