Howell Jackson Lynch Jr.
March 15, 1952 ~ March 26, 2017 (age 65)

Howell Jackson Lynch, Jr., 65, of New Orleans, LA, passed away at home on March 26.

He was born in Pulaski, Tennessee on March 15, 1952 to Jack and Mary Lynch.

In 1970, shortly after graduating from Battle Ground Academy in Franklin, TN, Howell enlisted with the United States Marine Corps. During 5 years of service he spent a year studying Russian at the Defense Language Institute in Anascostia, MD and was deployed for 18 months to Misawa, Japan, where he was a radio/telephone intercept operator. After leaving the service, he earned an accounting degree at MTSU, a M.Acc at UT Austin and a PhD in tax accounting at Texas A&M. He taught accounting until his retirement in 2016. Faculty appointments included UNO, Lamar University, and Loyola University.

Howell was a member of The Lake Vista United Methodist Church in New Orleans, the Boy Scouts of America, and Beta Alpha Psi. He was advisor for the Association of Black Accountants at Lamar University. As a professor, he prepared free tax returns for students.

He is survived by his wife of 35 years, Jeanette Schuman Lynch of New Orleans; his children, Jackson Lynch of Austin, TX, Mary Anne Lynch of New Orleans, and Nicholas Lynch of Austin, TX; his mother, Mary Farris Lynch of Nashville; his siblings, Rachel Lynch of Sewanee, TN, Farris Ralston of Monteagle, TN, and George Lynch (Amy) of Nashville; his “adopted” brother, Fred Ralston of Fayetteville, TN; his uncle and aunt, Alfred and Carney Farris, of Orlinda, TN; his mother-in-law, Georgette Schuman, of New Orleans; and his brother-in-law Albert Schuman (Vicki) of Buda, TX. He is also survived by three nieces and four nephews.

He was predeceased by his father, Jack Lynch of Pulaski, TN; his grandparents, Willis and Mary Haynes Farris of Nashville, and Henry and Ruby Overall Lynch of Murfreesboro; and his aunts, Rachel and Sarah Camille Farris, of Nashville.

A visitation will be held at The Lake Vista United Methodist Church in New Orleans on April 1 from 9:30 to 11:30 followed by a celebration of his life led by Pastor Norwood Hingle.

A graveside service led by Pastor Lee Stevenson will be held at Maplewood Cemetery in Pulaski, Tennessee on April 8 at 11:00. A reception at Savory Jack’s in Pulaski will follow.
