Duffy Evan Bowen
October 26, 1944 - March 11, 2017

Duffy Evan Bowen passed away peacefully at home on March 11, 2017 at the age of 72. He was preceded in death by his wife Lynda, parents Charles and Helen, brother Dennis, sister-in-law Mary, and in-laws Ross and Mary Powell.
Duffy left behind his daughter Natalie, son Charles, daughter-in-law Kym, his grandchildren Emerson Joy, Helena Lynda, and Lincoln Powell, and his Golden Retriever Buck. He is also survived by brother Terry Bowen and wife Elaine, sister Deidre Dressen and husband Donnie, sister Carla Hollis, sister-in-law Sondra Cadenhead and husband Ben, plus numerous nieces, nephews, cousins and friends.
Duffy was born in Lafayette, Indiana on October 26, 1944. His family moved to San Antonio when he was 9. He was the middle of 5 children and grew up with strong family, faith and work ethics. He graduated from Central Catholic High School, joining the U. S. Army shortly after. He spent most of his military career working as a radar technician at White Sands Missile Range. After leaving the Army, Duffy attended Texas A & I, later transferring and graduating with an engineering degree from Texas A & M. A fearless entrepreneur, he always welcomed new business opportunities. In 1974, Duffy and long-time friend Bob Dupnick opened the original Fatso’s Bar-B-Que on Bandera Rd. They successfully opened several other locations over the next decade. He sold Fatso’s in 1988, shortly after his partner’s unexpected death. He went to work for Peco Construction and stayed with them for 25 years.
Duffy was a loving husband, father, grandfather, brother, in-law, and uncle. He was a man of many talents and his b-b-q skills are well known among friends and family. He leaves a legacy of hard work, caring friendships and a can-do spirit. He loved spending time with friends and family and going to his ranch.
He and his family attended St. Luke’s Catholic Church for over 30 years and he was a lifetime member of The St. Luke Men’s Club. After his retirement in 2012, he volunteered several times a week with St. Luke’s and the St. Vincent de Paul Society.
The family wishes to thank the doctors and nurses who cared for Duffy during his 8 year battle with cancer. Special thanks go to Dr. Lon Smith and the staff of the Start Center.
Visitation will be at Oak Hills Mortuary on Monday, March 27, 5-8 pm with rosary at 7 pm. Mass, Tuesday, March 28, 10 am at St. Luke Catholic Church. Interment with Military Honors will follow at Ft. Sam Houston National Cemetery.
Memorial contributions may be made to the American Cancer Society, the St. Vincent de Paul Society at St. Luke Catholic Church, or Texas A & M University.
