MARK JAY OEHL

TOMBALL - Mark Jay Oehl, 49, died Tuesday, February 21, 2017 after an 18 month battle with cancer.

He was born on May 11, 1967 in Houston, to Marvin James and Charlene Marie (Svoboda) Oehl. He grew up and attended schools in Alief, received a B.S. in Electrical Engineering from Texas A&M University, College Station in 1988 where he studied under a full academic scholarship, was in the Tau Beta Pi Engineering Honor Society, received a Distinguished Student Award, and played bass clarinet in the Texas A&M Symphonic Band.

After graduation, he held positions of increasing responsibility in software design and development involving multiple computer languages and operating systems. One early challenge was designing, developing, implementing, and maintaining the engineering analysis software for the ascent phase of Space Shuttle operations. Mark also loved collecting and listening to classical music recordings, reading about classical music and writing music to play on his piano and keyboard.

Survivors include his parents, Marvin and Charlene Oehl of Shiner; one sister, Kristi Mishler and husband Daniel; nieces, Emma Mishler, Molly Mishler and Anna Mishler.

He was preceded in death by his wife, Celeste Oehl.

A memorial service and burial will be at 2 p.m., Friday, March 3, 2017 at the Shiner Catholic Cemetery Pavilion.

In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to Sts. Cyril and Methodius Catholic Church, 306 S. Ave. F, Shiner, Tx. 77984-8208.
