Donald Vincent Shuhart Jr.
September 24, 1926 - February 25, 2017

Don V. Shuhart, Jr. was 90 years young when he passed away on 25 February 2017. He was born 24 September 1926 in Stillwater, OK to parents Dr. Donald V. Shuhart, Sr. and Alma L. McHenry.
He is preceded in death by his parents, sister Mrs. Dorothy Myers, and second wife Edyth Shuhart.

Don resided in the Dallas-Plano-Richardson, TX area for over 50 years, before following his dream to live in Galveston, TX.

He graduated from Texas A&M, Class of 1948, with an Electrical Engineering degree. He was a 3rd generation Aggie and active in the Corp. He faithfully attended class reunions every year until the last two years. Two of his children and a granddaughter also followed him to A&M.

While in college, he enlisted in the U.S. Air Force in 1945. He learned radio communications, which later lead to CB Radios and becoming an avid storm chaser.

When Don was young, he and his father built by hand a wooden 16’ boat. Since then, he always had a passion for boats. He often spent weekends at Lake Texoma boating with the family. After retirement, he exchanged big boats for RC boats. He enjoyed designing and racing RC boats, winning lots of trophies, and helping the Dallas RC Thunderboats Club promote the sport to kids. His proud accomplishment was designing and building lithium battery-powered RC boats. He loved science and had a deep passion for designing and creating his own inventions.

Don loved traveling, especially to Hawaii making numerous trips to the islands. He loved wearing his Hawaiian shirts, and in winter those brightly colored “crazy” sweaters. His latest trip took him down the Rhine in Europe on a river cruise.

For over 50 years, Don owned his own business in the industrial heating industry. Over the years, he successfully designed many custom applications for his Customers.

Don is survived by his three children, Kathryn Piazza, Gary Shuhart and Layne Roach, and their mother Nita Shuhart; four Grandchildren, Christian Porter, Nathan Porter, Ryan Shuhart, and Rachel Shuhart; six Great-Grandchildren, Breece Porter, Zachary Porter, Madison Porter, Elijah Porter, Ezekiel Porter, and Zoe Shuhart; two Step-Great-Grandchildren, Mathew Aldridge and Lucas O’Nolan; and one Great-Great-Granddaughter of Breece.

Don and his cheerful smile will be missed by all who knew him.

Family will receive friends on Friday, March 3, 2017 from 6-8 PM at Restland Funeral Home.

Service will be held on Saturday, March 4, 2017 at 3 PM in the Abbey Chapel at Restland.

Funeral arrangements have been entrusted to Restland Funeral Home and Memorial Park, 13005 Greenville Avenue, Dallas, Texas, 75243.
