John E. Winbery
May 27, 1930 - February 27, 2017

John E. Winbery passed away at home on Monday, February 27, 2017 at the age of 86. Son of the late Edna McFatter Winbery and Herbert Percy Winbery. John was married to Dorothy Ann Forester Winbery for 23 years and together they produced three children. He is the loving father of Steven Randall Winbery (deceased), John Calvin Winbery and Julie Ann Guidry. Loving step-father of David Wolfe. Loving step-grandfather of Stephen Wolfe and Aaron Wolfe.

Julie Guidry and her husband Scott of Beaumont, Texas, John Winbery of Fairfax, Virginia, Dave Wolfe and his wife Chris of Vidor, Texas; Stephen Wolfe and his wife Gina of Humble, Texas and their two children Ashley and Abby, Aaron Wolfe of Vidor, Texas and his Two children, David and Bruce.

John was raised in Port Arthur, Texas and graduated from Thomas Jefferson high school

He graduated from Texas A&M University and joined the Air Force

In the early 1960’s he started his own business Con-Select

He moved the company to Harvey Louisiana

He sold his business in the early 1980’s and started Classic Marine a boat company located in near his home in Mandeville Louisiana where he lived in Beau Chene on the golf course.

He sold the boat company and became a consultant to other companies in the United States and all over the world for electrical generating systems.

Along with his consulting work he became an expert witness and was involved in many cases all over the country for his industry for correct specifications for all types of electrical generating systems.


As a consultant for English electric he and Carolyn had to travel to Dubai on several occasions to consult on one of his favorite projects. A wealthy investor purchased a well-known yacht that had belonged to the Kennedy family and was being renovating to become a world-class yacht rental in Dubai

Thru the ownership of his company Con-Select and his many years of consulting and expert witness work he was considered a leading authority for his area of expertise.

Because of this recognition, he was afforded the opportunity to travel all over the world and was always accompanied by his wife Carolyn.

During his career he was highly recognized by the Association for his industry EGSA and he received an extensive amount of awards for his dedicated service to his industry

He served as the president of EGSA and held numerous other positions

Most recently, he attended a celebration honoring the organization’s anniversary and was part of a huge celebration honoring of all past presidents

At 86 years old he was still working with projects all over the world right up until his passing

John and Carolyn were members of Mandeville’s First Baptist Church where John was a deacon.

Along with his wife of 45 years, he pursued all of his hobbies and everything he loved.

Traveling----flying private planes—fishing ---hunting ---water and snow skiing ---boating –golfing ---scuba diving and snorkeling----cruising ---hot air balloon rides


Friends are invited to a visitation with the family at Mandeville’s First Baptist Church, 1895 Hwy 190, Mandeville, LA 70448 on Saturday, March 4, 2017 at 2:00 PM followed by a memorial service at 3:00 PM and a reception for all at the church at 4:00 PM. In lieu of flowers, the family requests donations in memory of John E. Winbery to be made to Mandeville’s First Baptist Church Building Fund. E.J. Fielding Funeral Home is in charge of arrangements.
