Jerry B. Vaughn, 79, of Memphis, TN, formerly of Brighton, TN, died on Sunday, February 26, 2017 at his home surrounded by his family. He was born January 22, 1938 in Memphis, TN, the son of the late Charlene Stewart Vaughn and W.B. Vaughn. He was raised by his grandmother and grandfather, Ethel Thomas and Mamie L. Stewart in Brighton, TN.
He graduated, president of his class, from Brighton High School in 1955 where he met his sweetheart and married the former Barbara Ann Hutchison of Brighton, TN. He graduated from Memphis State University in 1959 with degrees in Chemistry and Math and graduated from Texas A&M University in 1967 with a Master of Business Administration.
He is survived by Barbara Vaughn and his sons, Mark D. Vaughn and Stewart Gregory Vaughn, and 6 grandchildren and one great-granddaughter. He was preceded in death by his son, Vincent Jeffrey Vaughn.
Lt. Colonel Jerry B. Vaughn retired from a career in the United States Air Force after 22 years with the Air Force Commendation Medal and Distinguished Service Medal. He was instrumental in the implementation of many of the early data processing systems for the DOD while completing info systems/stats coursework at George Washington University in 1973.
Mr. Vaughn taught undergraduate and graduate courses in accounting and data processing at American University in Washington D.C. After his military service, Mr. Vaughn then worked for Federal Express Corporation for another 22 years before retiring in Memphis, TN.
Visitation will be at 1 p.m. and funeral at 2 p.m. on Friday, March 3, 2017 at Munford Funeral Home, 1136 Tipton Road, Munford, TN 38058 with graveside service immediately following in Helen Crigger Cemetery, 236 Beaver Rd., Munford, TN.
