Darla Waters
September 02, 1960 - February 13, 2017

Darla Sue Waters, 56, of Midlothian, Texas, was born September 2, 1960, in Dallas, Texas, to Don and Mary (Harris) Hill. She was diagnosed with diabetes at the age of 11. She fought a long, courageous battle against the disease. On Monday, February 13, 2017, surrounded by family and friends, she went home to her Lord and Savior Jesus Christ.

Darla was a 1979 graduate of Bryan High School in Bryan, Texas. She graduated from Texas A&M University in 1983 with a Bachelor of Science degree in Elementary Education. She taught elementary school several years in Bryan-College Station and Dallas before retiring from full-time teaching to become a stay-at-home mother.

She enjoyed crafting, scrapbooking, baking, reading, singing in the church choir, and attending Aggie football games and Corps events with her son. Her most cherished activity was the role of “Mama Waters”. For a time, she owned and operated a company, Shades of Old, which specialized in hosting traditional tea parties. She also served as a Stampin’ Up consultant and worked at Coldwater Creek and James Avery for several years. Most recently, she volunteered her time at the Christian Women’s Job Corps, helping equip women with essential skills to improve their lives.

Darla was an advocate of organ donation, having received a kidney donation from her husband 13 years ago.

She was preceded in death by her grandparents Elbert Richard (E.R.) and Charlene (Mason) Harris and Asa Collinsworth (A.C.) and Lougenia “Eula” (Jordan) Hill.

Darla is survived by her loving and devoted husband of 28 years, Jay Waters, and their son, Jeremy with wife, Ally. She also is survived by her mother, Mary Hill, and her father, Don Hill and his wife, Barbara, as well as her father- and mother-in-law, Jerry and Pat Waters. In addition, she is survived by her sisters and their spouses, Mary Kay (Hill) and Li-wei Yu and Donna Gay (Hill) and Steven Leist, as well as her sister-in-law and spouse, Sharon (Waters) and Tommy Thomas. Finally, she is survived by nieces and nephews Grace Yu, Daniel Yu, Olsen Leist, Taylor Shiver, and Ashley Shiver.

The family requests in lieu of flowers that a memorial donation be given in her name to:
