Fred Rude Ablon(1934 - 2017)
ABLON, Fred Rude Fred Rude Ablon passed away on Sunday, February 19, 2017 at his residence in Dallas, from Parkinson's and Dementia. Fred was born in Fort Worth on October 22, 1934, and moved to Dallas in 1940, where he lived out his full and fruitful 82 years. Fred will always be remembered as a loving father, grandfather, brother, husband, and wonderful friend to many. Fred was quite the athlete - he was the leading hitter on the Texas A&M Baseball Team where he helped the team win the Southwest Conference Championship. To help with his baseball swing he took up golf in the offseason, and this side sport later became his passion. Fred then won the Golf Championship at Eglin Air Force Base, while stationed in Florida between 1956 and 1958. Fred's golf skills increased once he returned to Dallas where he became the Singles Golf Champion and Doubles Golf Champion with his dear friend Michael Schaenen, eventually becoming the Columbian Club Golf Champion a total of 19 times. He was a scratch golfer playing right handed, but to shake things up switched to left handed, and continued to bewilder his golfing buddies. Fred had a mixed bag of talents, and carried a mix bag of clubs. A local legend indeed. Fred was scouted by the Baseball Major Leagues but instead decided to focus on his budding family with Suzie (Weitzman), and returned to Dallas after his military service. He entered the family business, Ablon Poultry, with his father Bernard and brother Sam. Ablon Poultry was later acquired by Pilgrim's Pride. In 1972 Fred started his own business, Soil Building Systems, a landscape supply company, which also evolved into a family business, with his son Baron. Fred had 4 children, Mazelle Bohacz (Kevin), Rachelle, Bari Campbell (Tave), and Baron (Marla), and 5 loving grandchildren Shayne and Travis Campbell of Colorado, and Austin, Bronsin and Carsin Ablon of Dallas. Fred's parents, now deceased, were Bernard and Pearl (Rude). Fred is also survived by his big brother Sam (Bebe), and their children Miki (Winkenbach), Mike and Michaela. Fred's Memorial Service will be held on Thursday, February 23, 2017 at 4 pm at Temple Emanu-El, 8500 Hillcrest Ave, Dallas, TX 75225, with a reception immediately following.
