Erik William “Q” Quiroz
It is with heavy hearts that we announce the sudden passing of Erik William “Q” Quiroz on December 24, 2016 in College Station, Texas. Born on October 10, 1970 in Madison, Wisconsin, he was 46 years old.
A graduate of Texas A&M – Galveston with a degree in marine science, he was a very proud Aggie. (Class of 1993! Whoop!) He worked in marine science laboratories at Texas A&M University and the University of Southern Mississippi. His work allowed him the opportunity to work on research cruises in the Gulf of Mexico, the Arabian Sea, the Mediterranean Sea, the Indian Ocean, the South Pacific Ocean and Antarctica.
He loved all sports, and, in addition to the Fighting Texas Aggies, was a huge fan of the Dallas Cowboys and Houston Astros. He also loved the Gulf Coast, and went fishing in its warm waters every time he had the chance. An avid fan and practitioner of the art of barbecue, he competed in several barbecue competitions throughout the years. He also prepared countless briskets and pork butts for his many friends.
A lifelong bachelor, Q was generous with his time and talents with his friends and family, and loved throwing horseshoes or playing cards or 42 anytime he got the chance.
He is survived by his father and step-mother, Raul and Becky Quiroz; his mother, Sandy Connally; his step-mother Karen Johnson; his sister and brother-in-law, Tenley and Brian Stevens; nieces and nephew Madeleine, Hannah and Asher Stevens, and his step-sister, Krista Quiroz. He is also survived by many aunts, uncles and cousins.
Please join his family for a Celebration of His Life on Sunday, January 8, 2017 from 1:00 to 3:00 at the Royal Ridge Recreational Club, 5859 Royal Ridge, San Antonio, Texas 78239. A private internment will occur at Holy Cross Cemetery in San Antonio, Texas. The family will be establishing a scholarship in Erik’s name at Texas A&M – Galveston; in lieu of flowers, we ask that you join us in contributing to Erik’s legacy.
Erik could always be counted on to greet you with a broad smile and a big “Howdy”. He was a loving and generous man. He will be missed by all.
