Born October 24, 1939 in Ft. Worth, TX to William H. and Lorraine Smith. Marshall grew up in Poly and Haltom City, TX. He graduated from Carter Riverside High School in 1957. He was very involved in high school including editor of the school newspaper his senior year, president of the Safety Club and Junior ROTC. Marshall attended Texas Tech for one year and then transferred to Texas A&M to complete his degree in Industrial Distribution. While at A&M he was a member of Squadron 12 in the Corps of Cadets and was on First Wing Staff. He was also President of the Student Engineering Council. Upon graduation he was commissioned in to the US Air Force as a 1st Lieutenant and was stationed at Wright-Patterson Air Force Base in Dayton, Ohio. He worked on many projects there including the purchase of Air Force One, and he was the Officer on Duty the day of the Cuban Missile Crisis.
While in Ohio, he met the love of his life and future wife Phyllis Ann Murphy on a blind date. After serving his country he moved his family back to Texas to work for the Vought Corporation. One of his projects at LTV was designing and installing the Air Trans system at the new DFW airport. He also earned his MBA from TCU while working at Vought. He and his brothers opened Smith Brothers Homes in 1976 and he enjoyed building so much that he opened Marshall Smith Custom Homes and made it his career. He spent the next 20 plus years building custom homes and developing neighborhoods in the Hurst, Euless, Bedford, Colleyville, Keller, and North Richland Hill areas.
Marshall loved Las Vegas and made well over 100 trips there over the years. He was also an avid coin and stamp collector. Enjoyed working on his family genealogy, trading stocks, bowling and coaching softball in the Hurst Girls Softball league for many years.
Marshall passed away peacefully on February 11, 2017 after a courageous battle with brain cancer.
He is preceded in death by his parents William H. and H. Lorraine Smith, his brother Bill Smith and his wife of 46 years Phyllis Smith.
Marshall is survived by daughter Michele and husband Korby Kidwill of Hurst, TX, daughter Susan and husband Richard Davis of Spring, TX, Brother Steve Smith and wife Glenda of Orlando, FL, numerous nieces and nephews and special friend and companion of 8 years Beverly Murray.

Marshall Ray Smith 77, passed away peacefully Saturday, Feb. 11, 2017, after a courageous battle with brain cancer. Service: 1 p.m. Friday, Birdville Baptist Church.
