JAMES CLARENCE LOW HOWARD, JR.
February 25, 1925 - February 4, 2017

James Clarence Low Howard, Jr., beloved husband, father, and granddad, passed into the arms of our Lord on February 4, 2017. James was born in Milford, Texas on February 25,1925, to James Clarence Low Howard and Millie Idell Frederick Howard. James joined the Navy in 1943 where he achieved the rank of Aviation Radio Man, 2nd Class, in Corpus Christi, Texas. He married the love of his life, Annie, in 1944, and lived in Corpus Christi until his tenure in the Navy ended in 1946.

James enjoyed sports as a student at Milford High School, where he was a star quarterback; and in college at North Texas Agricultural College and A&M at Bryan-College Station where he played running back, and was affectionately known as "James Steamboat Howard". He and Annie enjoyed watching the Houston Astros and Houston Texans games together.

After two children, in 1949 he hung up his cleats and became an employee of Gulf States Utilities. In 1951 he joined Magnolia Petroleum Company, later known as Mobil Oil Company. In 1962, James started his own business as an investor and Real Estate Broker. He was active in this business until December 2014 when he suffered a stroke.

Survivors include his daughters Betty Shugart (Robert), Linda Bolton (Mac); sons Billy Howard (Connie), Jim Howard (Diana), and Paul Howard (Sheri); 9 grandchildren, 10 great grandchildren, and 1 great great grandchild.

James, also known as Jim and James Jr., was preceded in death by his beloved wife, Annie Louise O'Connor Howard, who was laid to rest on February 4, 2017; his parents; and two sisters, Jimidel Louise Howard Spring and Mari Elizabeth Howard Wood.

Boze-Mitchell-McKibbin Funeral Home of Waxahachie, Texas arranged the grave side service held on February 5, 2017 at 2:00 P.M. Mr. Walter Buchanan officiated the service. Granddaughter, Tiffany Batchelor, read a prayer written by James on February 24,1980. Marcus Howard sang James favorite hymn, How Great Thou Art. Interment followed at the Milford Cemetery.

A memorial celebrating the life of James will be held at a later date in Houston, Texas. Tributes may be made to a charity of your choice.
