Claude Albert Nussbaum, Jr.

Claude Albert Nussbaum, Jr. passed away Jan. 11, 2017 at his home in Mexia at the age of 86. The Nussbaum family was one of the first families of Mexia, Claude was the last of them living in Mexia.
Claude was born Oct. 24, 1930 in Mexia to Claude and Alma Fleig Nussbaum. He was a graduate of Mexia High School, where he excelled in football. He scored the only Mexia touchdown in the 1947 Regional Championship game which, with the extra point, won the game. After high school, he proudly served his country in the US Navy during the Korean War and graduated from Texas A&M. On Aug. 8, 1951, Claude married his high school sweetheart, Anita Joyce Hancock; they celebrated 64 years together, just two days prior to her death on Aug. 10, 2015.
Claude retired from New York Life Insurance Company after many years of service as a sales representative.
Discussing football and politics with friends was one of Claude’s favorite pastimes.
He was preceded in death by his parents; wife, Joyce Hancock; daughter, Emily Nussbaum Fox; and brother, Julius Nussbaum.
Claude is survived by his daughter, Claudia Nussbaum Starnes and husband, Ray, and their daughter, Katie Starnes Reading and her husband, Dr. David Reading, their daughters, Mary, Grace and Bailey Reading; granddaughter, Jennifer Holderman Walters and husband, Rich, and their daughter, Brooklyn Walters.
Blair-Stubbs Funeral Home was in charge of arrangements.
