Ray Allen Coufal
November 18, 1967 - January 29, 2017

Ray Allen Coufal, 49, passed away January 29, 2017 in Fayetteville, Texas. A visitation will be held at Memorial Oaks Chapel, 1306 W. Main in Brenham Thursday, February 2, 2017 from 5 until 8 p.m. Funeral services will be held at 10 a.m., Friday, February 3, 2017 at Living Word Lutheran Church of Katy, 3700 S. Mason Road, Katy, Texas 77450. Rev. Jeremy Fry will officiate. Burial will be at 1:30 p.m. Friday in Prairie Lea Cemetery in Brenham. Visitation will be held at the church beginning at 9 a.m. Friday until service time. Ray Allen Coufal was born November 18, 1967 in Jourdanton, Texas to Alvin Henry Jr. and Verna Jean Rathke Coufal. He was baptized January 9, 1968 at St. John Lutheran Church. Ray was confirmed in June of 1983 at St. Paul Lutheran Church of Shelby, and graduated as valedictorian from Round Top-Carmine High School. On May 14, 1994, he was married to Cynthia Bilski at St. Mary’s Catholic Church in Brenham. Ray received a B.S. in Business Administration from Texas A&M, graduating in 1990 with a 4.0 average. He was employed as a chief financial officer in the oil and gas industry. A sports enthusiast, Ray was a fan of the Houston Texans, Rockets and Astros. An avid outdoorsman, he enjoyed hunting deer, hogs and birds, and fishing. Karate, football and golf were also favorite hobbies. Blessed with a green thumb, Ray was always taking care of his oak trees, and grew roses of many varieties. He was a home chef, preparing dishes of sausage, tamales, and beer can chicken for his family and friends. He was also known to be a champion chili cooker. Survivors include his wife, Cynthia Coufal of Richmond; parents, Alvin Henry Jr. and Verna Jean Coufal of Fayetteville; son, Landon Coufal of Richmond; daughters Jessica Bilski and fiancé Chad Mitchell of Helotes, Texas and Brooke Coufal of Richmond; mother-in-law Theresa Bilski and her special friend, Billy Dean Koerth; sister and brother-in-law Ruth and Richard Poncik; sister-in-law Carol and Ricky Dean; brother-in-law Calvin Bilski. Also surviving are numerous nieces, nephews, uncles, aunts, and other relatives. He was preceded in death by his father-in-law, Peter Bilski and his grandparents. Serving as pallbearers are Matt Sommerlatte, Bradley Warmke, Duane Dudensing, Garrett Poncik, John Beatty, Hunter Seeker, Calvin Krause, and Troy Schomberg. Honorary pallbearers are Tim Mickan, John Sommerlatte, and Steven Mohr. Memorials may be directed to the Shelby V.F.D., c/0 Warren Meischen, 7011 Fm 389, Fayetteville, Tx. 78940, or Fayetteville Volunteer Fire Department, P. O. Box 65, Fayetteville, Tx. 78940.
