Michael Gene Bryan
June 27, 1945 - January 25, 2017
Keller- Michael Gene Bryan, 71, passed away January 25, 2017. Memorial service will be Friday February 3, 2017 at 11:00 am at White’s Chapel Methodist Church, Southlake.
Michael was born 6-27-1945 to Dany D. Bryan and Glenda Jean Bryan in Coleman. Mike grew up in Abilene where he graduated from Abilene HS. He attended Texas A&M University where he was a member of the Corps of Cadets, The “Fish” Rifle Team, 2nd Battalion Staff Character, and Guidance and Scholastic Officer, Distinguished Student, Distinguished Military Student and Graduate. During his senior year at Texas A&M he married his high school sweetheart, Carole Herring. Following graduation Mike was commissioned as a 2nd Lt. in the US Army. He began working on his M.B.A. at Texas A&M but his plans were derailed with the escalation of the Vietnam War.
Mike loved his country and was a strong patriot believing in the principles our country was founded on. Mike served his country well during his two years as an officer in the US Army. During that time he was in the Quartermaster branch and graduated from the Army-Air Force Exchange Course at Ft. Lee, Virginia. He was asked to stay on in a staff position. However, taking a chance Mike turned down the offer and was transferred to Fort Carson, CO. where he was a company commander of the 5th S&T division. He completed his active duty as 1st lieutenant.
Mike and Carole and their newborn son Matt returned to Texas. His business career began with Stewart and Stevenson in 1970 in Odessa, Texas, where he was District Sales Engineer. In the 1972 he transferred to the Dallas, branch where he was a sales manager and later oilfield sales manager for Stewart and Stevenson Worldwide. He remained at Stewart and Stevenson until 1986 when he formed his own company M.G. Bryan Equipment Company with one assistant. The company continued to grow and prosper. In 2007 Mike and his company were honored by the Dallas Business Journal and SMU Cox School of Business as the 37th fastest growing private business in North Texas. Several years later he was honored again as the 3rd fasted growing private business in the Metroplex.
Mike and Carole raised three children in Arlington, Matthew William Bryan, Mark Daniel Bryan, and Michelle Lynay Bryan Perry. In 2001 they moved to Southlake to be closer to their children and seven grandchildren.
Mike belonged to the Texas Southwestern Cattle Raisers Association, Texas A&M Association of Former Students, Moslah Shrine Temple in Ft. Worth, Dallas Scottish Rite, Andy G Vaughn Masonic Lodge-Odessa, Texas, Texas Council of Royal and Select Masons, Worth Commander Knights Templar- Ft. Worth, Texas, Texas Aggie Corps of Cadets Association, and NOMADS- National Oil – Equipment Manufacturers and Delegates Society.
Mike is survived by his wife Carole Herring Bryan of Keller; children Matt Bryan and wife Wendy of Flower Mound, granddaughter Taylor Bryan and Logan Bryan; son Mark Bryan and wife Heidi of Southlake, and grandsons Huston Bryan and Hogan Bryan; Daughter Michelle Bryan Perry and son in law Zack Perry – granddaughters Peighton Perry, Lanie Perry & Cameron Perry and Mother-in-law Hattie Herring, Brownwood; brother Ronald Dan Bryan of Lake Kiowa and numerous nieces and cousins.
The family would like to express their deepest gratitude to the entire staff at the Ilse at Watermere as well as Heritage Hospice for all the love and gentle care they provided.
