A Memorial Service with Communion will be held January 28 at 3:00 pm at St. James House, 5802 W. Baker Rd., Baytown, TX, reception following. The Rt. Rev. Jeff W. Fisher, Episcopal Diocese of Texas, will officiate, assisted by the Rev.'s Rebecca Smith Booth and Micki Rios. Ms. Ann Boucher will provide music.
Fr. Gordon was born December 6, 1931 in San Antonio, TX. He died December 3, 2016 of Parkinson's disease at St. James House in Baytown, TX. He is preceded in death by his parents, Mr. and Mrs. Gordon Boone Gudger, Sr., and his daughter, Barbara Nell. He is survived by his wife, Nell Jeanne Morin Gudger, their children, Debra Anne, Linda LaNelle, Larry Gordon, John Earl, and their families; by his sister, Judi Gudger, her children, Flann, Heather, Becky, and their families.
Gordon graduated from Lamar High School, C'50, in Houston, TX. He attended college at Texas A&M University, graduating in 1954 with a degree in Chemical Engineering and a Commission in the US Army as a 2nd Lieutenant. He worked for International Paper Co., 1954-1955, followed by a tour in the US Army, First Armored Division. He was honorably discharged as a 1st Lieutenant in 1958. He entered studies for ordained ministry in the Episcopal Diocese of Texas at the Seminary of the Southwest in Austin, graduating in 1960. Gordon was ordained to the priesthood in 1961 by the Rt. Rev. F. Percy Goddard at St. Luke's Episcopal Church in Belton, TX.
After serving nine years in several parishes, Gordon left full time ministry for five years to work for Dow Chemical Company, Lake Jackson, TX. Working in research and development as a Chemical Engineer, he was instrumental in developing the Cold Cure process…and Dow turned off the ovens!
Resigning from Dow, he returned to full time ministry for another eighteen years. Having served a total of ten congregations in the Diocese of Texas, Gordon retired, whereupon he learned to paint and to play the bagpipes, to serve as a San Antonio Botanical Gardens Garden Guide, and to travel widely with his wife. In his lifetime, he was a member of the Lion's Club, acted in a local Community Theater, and was a member of the Dallas Orchid Society. Always giving of himself, he donated his body to science for the continued research of Parkinson's disease. In lieu of flowers, please donate to the .
