Marvin Joe Hamilton
Monday, October 11, 1926 - Saturday, November 12, 2016

Marvin Joe Hamilton, age 90, passed away Saturday, November 12th, 2016 at 2:00AM at home surrounded by family. Marvin was born at home in Chillicothe, Texas October 11th, 1926 to the late Joe and Bessie Hamilton. Preceded in death his sister, Margie King, and brother Lowell Hamilton. Survived by his wife of 63 years, Alta Hamilton of Houston,TX, daughter Nancy Hamilton of Austin TX , son & his wife, Robert and Holly Hamilton of Rockport, TX and daughter & her husband, Jo and Scott Elsner of Arlington, TX. Grandchildren; Bill & Sarah E Hamilton, Sarah Mae Hamilton, Jonathan Roeder, and Elizabeth and Chris Steinbomer. Also leaving behind, sister Doris O’Hara of Mt. Enterprise, TX and numerous nieces and nephews. Marvin’s hobbies and interests were woodworking, genealogy, American History. He was a member of the First Families of Tennessee. His early genealogy efforts identified ‘our’ Hamilton Family to the group known as the First Families of Tennessee. These families were settled in Tennessee before Statehood in 1796. He was a long time member Westbury United Methodist Church. He taught Sunday school to youth as well as adults. During his retirement years, Marvin enjoyed working with the ‘Handyman’ group that assisted with the church up keep. Marvin served in the US Army 1944-1946, Attended Stephen F. Austin State University, he graduated from Kilgore Junior College 1949 and graduated from Texas A&M in 1951 earning a degree in Electrical Engineering while serving in the A&M Corp of Cadets. After graduation, Marvin served in the US Air Force as First Lieutenant and discharged in 1953. Marvin retired 1986 from Exxon Pipeline after 30 years of service as an Electric Engineer. Marvin was known as ‘Marvmatic’ by his co-workers. Visitation Monday 6-8PM will be at Dickie Allen Funeral Home in Cushing, TX. Funeral Services, Tuesday 10AM at Sulfur Springs Baptist Church, on Rusk CR 3227, graveside service following at the Helpenstell Cemetery A SPECIAL Thank you to Lilly Felton, Martha Hillsman, Drew Meyer, Dorothy Ardie, and Elena Trejo -Marvin’s Angels.
