Jennings Harley Vaughan
November 22, 1922 - December 26, 2016

Jennings Harley Vaughan was born on November 22, 1922 in Johntown, TX to George Avret and Mamie Hawkins Vaughan. He passed away on December 26, 2016 in Richardson, TX at the age of 94.
He graduated from Bogata High School in 1941 and immediately married his high school sweet heart, Pansy Alsobrook. They were married for just short of 75 years when she passed away this past July.
He was preceded in death by his parents and two brothers, Kenneth W. Vaughan in 1995 and Avret Lynn Vaughan in 2005. He is survived by one brother, Lawrence M. Vaughan and wife Helen Watts Vaughan of Overton, sisters Eleanor Vaughan Crawford and husband Dick Crawford of Paris and Mary Ann Vaughan Ward of Henderson and sister-in-law Mary Margaret Bernard Vaughan of Bogata. He is also survived by his three children, David Vaughan and wife Betty of Plano, Sarah Vaughan Hughes and husband Marc of Argyle and Melissa Vaughan Smith and husband Todd of Richardson.
He was a proud grandfather to Chris Vaughan and wife Angie, Savannah Hughes, Maggie Smith Sifuentes and husband Luiz, Tara Hughes, Dillon Smith and Daniel Smith. He loved his great grandchildren, Grace, Isaac, Noah, Jacob, Lily and Cana Marie Vaughan and Amayah and Liesel Sifuentes. He was also blessed to have numerous nieces, nephews, cousins, and dear friends.
He was a faithful member of the Richardson East Church of Christ since 1962.
He served his country during World War II in the China, Burma and India Theater as an Electrical Specialist on DC-4’s. His service took him completely around the world. He entered the Army Air Corps in 1943 becoming a staff sergeant. He was awarded the American Theater Ribbon with two battle stars, a Good Conduct Medal, a Distinguished Unit Badge, a Victory Ribbon and two Overseas Bars. He was honorably discharged in 1946.
His spare time was spent working on his farm that he loved so much near Bogata, Texas. Throughout his adult years he made many patriotic speeches and led small groups on behalf of the patriotic group with which he was affiliated. He was also engaged in extensive genealogical research through the years. He loved American and Texas history.
He and Pansy were off to Texas A&M after the war. He earned his Bachelor of Science degree in Industrial Safety Engineering. He was employed by Employers Insurance of Texas for 34 years and then fulfilled a life-long ambition of starting his own business, Pioneer Loss Control, which he operated for 10 years before retiring in 1994.
Funeral services will be held at 2:00 PM on Friday, December 30, 2016 at the First Baptist Church in Bogata, TX. Burial will follow at the Bogata Cemetery.
Visitation will be held on Friday, December 30th from 1:00 PM until service time. The family would also like to invite everyone back to the Church to visit following the burial.
