Joyle JD Legler, 88, of La Grange, Texas, passed away on Thursday, December 15, 2016.

JD was born in Fayetteville, Texas on April 30, 1928, the son of Otto and Clara (Brunner) Legler. He married Viola Hollas on September 25, 1950 in La Salle, Texas.

Joyle was a Texas A&M graduate of the class of ’49 who served in the U.S. Army during the Korean War. JD and Viola moved to La Grange after his years in the Army and were members of Sacred Heart Catholic Church, American Legion and Knights of Columbus. He worked over 25 years for the Texas Highway Department, overseeing the construction of Interstate I-10 through Fayette and Colorado counties. JD then became the La Grange City Manager retiring with ten years of service. Additionally, he designed and supervised construction of various homes and businesses in La Grange.

He is survived by his wife, Viola (Hollas) Legler; son, James Legler and wife, Tricia, of San Antonio, TX; and daughter, Virginia Higdon and husband, David, of College Station, TX; five grandchildren: Diana Chandler, Michelle Pickett, Janice Fennell, Katie Artz and Carrie Legler; eight great grandchildren: Sam Chandler, Tim Chandler, Charlotte Pickett, Luke Pickett, Abby Fennell, Catherine Fennell, Drew Artz and Ben Artz; numerous nieces and nephews as well as other family members.

He was preceded in death by his parents; son, Mark Legler; sister, Gladys Cronenberger; three brothers: Clarence Buster Legler, Lee Otto “Possum” Legler and Edmund Willis Legler.

Visitation will be held on Tuesday, December 20, 2016 from 11:00 a.m. to 7:00 p.m. at Koenig & Strickland Funeral Home. Family will receive friends from 5:00 to 7:00 p.m. A rosary will be recited at 7:00 p.m.

Funeral Services will be held at Sacred Heart Catholic Church, 539 E. Pearl St., La Grange, Texas, at 11:00 a.m. on Wednesday, December 21, 2016. Burial will follow at La Grange City Cemetery.
