John Calvin Henderson
August 12, 1928 - December 24, 2016

John Calvin Henderson, 88, of Gonzales, passed away Saturday, December 24, 2016. He was born August 12, 1928 in Waelder, the son of John G. and Fannie Texas Ratliff Henderson. He married Dorothy Jean Petty May 28, 1966 in Port Lavaca. John was a graduate of Texas A & M University receiving his Bachelor and Masters degrees in Oceanography. He was a high school teacher for many years with the Port Lavaca ISD. After retiring from teaching he and Dorothy moved to Gonzales and ranched. He enjoyed fishing, both salt and fresh water. He ws a member of the First Baptist Church in Gonzales, the Gonzales Elks Club and was a proud member of the Association of Former Students of Texas A & M. He is survived by his wife of 50 years Dorothy Henderson of Gonzales; daughters: Hillary Ann Dunshee and husband Gary of Alpine, TX and Jennifer Leigh Roberts and husband Scott of Waelder; son John Brooks Henderson and wife Donna of Rockport, TX; 9 grandchildren and 7 great-grandchildren. He was preceded in death by his parents and his brother Robert Garrett Henderson. Visitation will be held from 5 until 7 p.m. Thursday at Seydler-Hill Funeral Home. Funeral services will be 10 a.m. Friday, December 30, 2016 at the funeral home with Dr. Chris Irving officiating. Interment will follow at the Hopkinsville Masonic Cemetery in Waelder. Memorials may be made to the First Baptist Church or the Gonzales Memorial Hospital Auxillary. Arrangements under the care and direction of Seydler-Hill Funeral Home, Gonzales.
