June 21, 1932 - December 17, 2016

Richard A. Green, 84, died Saturday, December 17, 2016 at Methodist West Hospital in Katy, Texas. Memorial services will be held at Schmidt Funeral Home in Katy, TX on Thursday, December 22, 2016 at 11:00 a.m. (1508 East Ave Katy, Texas)

Richard Green was born in Athens, Texas on June 21, 1932 to Beatrice Long Green and Grant Watson Green. Richard graduated from Athens High School at the age of 15 as Valedictorian of his class, and subsequently earned a Petroleum Engineering degree from Texas A&M University where he graduated at the age of 19. Richard was an excellent student and part of the Honorary Engineering Fraternity Tau Beta Pi and served in the Corps of Cadets.

Richard was in the ROTC, Civil Air Patrol and served in the United States Air Force. He defended our country in the Korean War and was stationed in Japan. He officially retired from the United States Air Force Reserves as a Lieutenant Colonel in 1992.

Richard began his career at Exxon and later joined Katy Drilling. Katy Drilling later became Lane Western where he spent the majority of his career. Richard started Green Engineering where he served as President and focused on drilling water wells and provided consulting services to several large companies, cities and municipalities. Richard believed in continuing education and received multiple designations in the engineering and drilling industry throughout his career. He was often retained as a subject matter expert in large trials regarding cities water supplies and water well disputes.

Richard was a skilled pilot who had a passion for flying and owned several planes throughout the years. He enjoyed spending time at his ranch in Athens, Texas where he was raised. An avid outdoorsman he enjoyed spending time in the field hunting with friends and family members. Richard was a Katy Tiger Football supporter and a religious fan. He traveled each year across the state following his beloved Katy Tiger’s on their annual pursuit of the Texas State Championship. Richard enjoyed country and bluegrass music and attended the fiddlers contest in his hometown of Athens Texas each year.

Richard met his wife Barbara at St Paul’s Methodist Church and they ultimately married in March of 1968. Barbara was the love of his life and his best friend.

Richard is survived by his beloved wife Barbara of 48 years, his step children: Kathy Moebes, David Blonstein and his wife Denise, Steven Blonstein and his wife Cathy, 10 grandchildren and 15 great grandchildren. His sister: Jo Bass and her children Paula Bass Hobson, Val Bass, Richard Bass and his wife Cecilia. Nephews: Mike Green and his wife Marion, Tim Green and his wife Karin and Denny Green. Nieces: Kathy Penney, Patti Green, Peggy Green and numerous grandchildren, great grandchildren, nephews, nieces and cousins.

Richard was preceded in death by his father Grant Watson Green, his mother Beatrice Long Green and brother Walter Green.
