Jack Truett Umberson(1931 - 2016)
Jack Truett Umberson, 85, a longtime resident of Benbrook and Fort Worth, passed away peacefully on Saturday, Dec. 17, 2016. Celebration of life, 10:30 a.m. Wednesday at Arlington Heights United Methodist Church. Interment: 2 p.m. Wednesday at Greenwood Memorial Park. Memorials: Should friends desire, gifts in his memory may be sent to Arlington Heights United Methodist Church, 4200 Camp Bowie Blvd, Fort Worth, TX 76107. Jack was born on Nov. 23, 1931, in Waco to Carroll and Lois Sullenberger Umberson. He was raised in Gholson with his brother, William L. Umberson. Jack served in the Air Force and was a proud graduate of Texas A & M University, Class of 1959. He was a patriot and was rarely seen without his flag lapel pin and his Aggie ring. He was also a member of the Masonic Lodge for 50 years, achieving Endowed status. Jack was fortunate to have found love twice in his life. He married Helen Walker on June 16, 1956, and they had two sons. After Helen passed away in Oct. 2001, he married Cecile "Candy" Gartner in June 2003. His family said that his first marriage was so successful that he needed to repeat the experience. He was employed in the safety field for Lone Star Gas, General Dynamics, C & H Transportation and Frozen Food Express. Jack was a loving husband, father and a very proud grandfather. He was a man of few words, which at least his youngest son felt was a very admirable quality. He loved a good joke. His favorite was: Why did the cowboy sell his horse? So he could buy a saddle. He also loved woodworking and spent many hours making wooden toys to give to children. He also made wooden crosses for the confirmants in the Methodist church. Survivors: Wife, Cecile Umberson; sons, David and wife, Elizabeth, Douglas and wife, Kerrie; grandchildren, Katie, Mitchell and John Umberson; and brother, William L. Umberson.
