Robert Morin "Bob" Moore
June 17, 1933 - December 16, 2016

Robert “Bob” Morin Moore was born in Galveston in 1933. Bob was an avid outdoorsman, environmentalist, father, husband, brother, uncle, mentor, prayer warrior, and friend, who went to be with Our Lord on Friday, December 16th, 2016 at the age of 83, in his home, which he called “Heaven on Earth”. Bob was deeply devoted to Our Lord and looked often and fondly toward his final home with Him.

Bob was preceded by his parents, Johnny Dell and Eddie Doyle Moore, and his sister Constance Eileen Moore Smith, as well Jeanette Schade Moore. He is survived by his wife, Linda Lee Moore, and his children Janis Moore Walker, Kelly Moore Chapman and husband Gabe, David John Moore, step daughter Laura Byrd Edge and husband Richard, and step-son Gregg Richard Byrd and wife Joanna. He also leaves behind a younger brother, Eddie Doyle Moore and his wife Linda, as well as their daughter Haley Moore Frink and husband Brian. He dearly loved his grandchildren, Sara Binford Parnell, Jacob Gabriel Chapman, and Caleb Matthew Chapman, as well as step-grandchildren, Isabel, Abigail, and Aiken Byrd, and 3 great-grandchildren, Daylon, London, and Violet Parnell. He was abundantly loved and will be dearly missed by all.

Bob was a proud graduate of Texas A&M University, Class of 1956, where he studied ecomimics, and also served as a Commanding Officer in the Corps. He went on to serve in the U.S. Army, honorably discharged as Captain. He graduated from South Texas college of Law in 1963, and has spent the last 51 years practicing in the Houston-Galveston area.

Bob was a member of Harmony Masonic Lodge, No. 6 A.F & A.M. for 40 years. He served as Worshipful Master in 1987. He was additionally a member of The Knight Templar and El Mina Shrine.

Bob practiced in different areas of law, however, he devoted his life to Environmental Law. He was active in local conservation groups, including The Galveston Bay Foundation, SCENIC Galveston, and Artist Boat. In 1996 he established the Cabeza de Vaca Center, to promote ecumenical understanding, as well as an appreciation of the wetlands as The Cradle of Life.” Pirates Beach and Cove developer, Jeff Blackard donated a 31 acre island named “The Robert M. “Bob” Moore Wildlife Sanctuary” to the Galveston Bay Foundation and Cabeza de Vaca Center in honor of Bob’s lifelong commitment to protecting coastal habitat. Bob could look out his kitchen window each morning and see the birds that nest and feed in the coastal marshes. This is why he called it “Heaven on Earth.”

Bob’s Celebration of Life Service will be held Wednesday, December 21st at St. Patrick’s Catholic Church in Galveston. There will be a visitation at 10:00am, followed by an 11:00am Mass. In lieu of flowers, the family requests donations to The Galveston Bay Foundation.
