Lafayette - Funeral Services will be held at 1:00 PM on Tuesday, December 20, 2016, at First Baptist Church of Lafayette for Mr. Hershel Gene Truelove, 85, who passed away on December 17, 2016 at 11:55 AM in Houston, Tx.

Reverend Steve Horn, Pastor of First Baptist Church will conduct the funeral services. Eulogy will be given by Reverend Dan Racca.

Burial will take place in Fountain Memorial Gardens Cemetery.

Mr. Truelove was born in Blue Ridge, Texas on December 2, 1931, the son of Marion L. and Willie Mulder Truelove. He graduated Valedictorian from Farmersville High School and then Texas A & M University with a degree in Civil Engineering. After graduating from A & M, he served in Engineer Intelligence for the U.S. Army during the Korean conflict.

Mr. Truelove, a resident of Lafayette , was a Registered Professional Engineer and Land Surveyor in Louisiana and Texas. He began his professional career with United Gas Pipe Line Co. and then moved to the California Co. (Chevron) for ten years. From 1965 through 1991, he was with the firm of John E. Chance & Assoc., Inc. as well as Surveys Boats, Inc., serving as president of both firms for a number of years prior to his retirement in December 1991.

He was an active member in the Baptist Church and served in a number of different lay positions during his adult life. At the time of his death, he was a member of the First Baptist Church of Lafayette. He was on the Board of Directors of the Lafayette YMCA where he served as president and was also a member of the Advisory Board of The Salvation Army to which he was designated a Life Member in 2006.

He was a member of the American Congress on Surveying & Mapping, an organization where he served as Louisiana State Chairman. He was also a member of the Louisiana Society of Professional Surveyors and the Texas Society of Professional Surveyors, Petroleum Club and City Club of Lafayette.

He is survived by his loving wife of 58 years, Norma Ziel Truelove. He is also survived by one son and his wife, Brian and Dana Truelove of Bellaire, Tx; two daughters and their husbands, Deborah and Randy Busby of Clear Lake Shores, TX and Denise and John Bishop of Houston, Tx; nine grandchildren - Matthew, Andrew, John, James and Alisa Truelove, Danielle and Nicholas Bishop and Collin and Daniel Busby.

He was preceded in death by his parents Marion L. Truelove and Willie Mulder ; three brothers - John D., Dorris and Charles; and sisters Essie Patterson and Jimmie Sellers.

The family requests that visiting hours be observed at Delhomme Funeral Home- Bertrand on Monday Dec. 19 from 6:00pm to 8:00pm.

Pallbearers will be Matthew, Andrew, John and James Truelove, Nicholas Bishop, Collin and Daniel Busby, and Tyler Pharr.
