Marshall Allen Fairchild
February 5, 1991 - December 13, 2016

Our gentle, kind, compassionate and much loved son, brother, grandson, uncle, nephew, cousin and friend, Marshall Allen Fairchild, 25, of Harwood, went to be with the Lord on Tuesday, December 13, 2016. Marshall was born on February 5, 1991 in San Marcos, TX to Ace Vaughan Fairchild and Jennifer Renee Fairchild. Marshall was a devoted member of the Harwood Baptist church.

Marshall is survived by his parents Ace and Renee Fairchild of Harwood, Grandparents Hoot and Marjorie Fairchild of Harwood, Frances Huff DeChane of Harwood, Brothers Randy Eardley, wife Emily and daughter Ava Jane of Mansfield TX, Ryan Eardley, wife Kristi and children Caitlyn and husband Dustin Ingalsbe, Carter and Brendan Leinneweber and Isabella Eardley of Round Rock, TX, Great nephew Brently Ingalsbe and numerous family and friends. He was preceded in death by his grandfather Richard J. DeChane and beloved uncles Mac Fairchild and Jimmy Fairchild.

Words cannot begin to express who Marshall REALLY was – he had a “Heart of Gold” - many times those words are spoken, but they are never more true than when spoken in reference to Marshall. Marshall was a friend to all - he was still looking for his first stranger! He could talk to anyone, was willing to help anyone and had a compassion for everyone. He always wanted to help and was looking for a way to make things better and easier. From the time he was a small boy he had a compassion for others – offering to help and find a solution to problems when he was really too little to be much help, but his heart was always tender to the needs of others. Whether trying to help an elderly man do maintenance at the Harwood Community Center when he was a little boy or driving his friends to practice and other events at college when they did not have gas money- Marshall was ready to help.

A devoted member of Harwood Baptist Church, Marshall had at least 16 years of perfect attendance in Sunday School- his perfect record ended when he left for college. While in college he was baptized at First Baptist Church Beaumont where he assisted in teaching a 4th through 6th grade boys Sunday School class. Marshall knew God’s word, read his Bible regularly and lived his life accordingly. Someone looked in Marshall’s truck and saw his well worn bible laying on the seat by his rifle – his comment “I knew he had to be a great guy”!

His cousins adored the fun loving gentle giant! Marshall was great with children. His nieces and nephews love to be around Uncle Marshall – when they were coming to Harwood for the weekend, the first question was “Will Uncle Marshall be there?” To niece Ava Jane, he was the baby whisperer and could calm her down, but he drew the line at changing diapers. His Granny could always count on Marshall to reach the things on the high shelves and help with the difficult mixing – who is going to mix up those cheese balls for Granny and those orange slice cookies? Marshall knew where everything was at Granny’s house. When she couldn’t find something she wanted, all she had to do was ask Marshall. If something needed to be moved or loaded, Marshall was the go to guy. And not just Granny; Aunts, Uncles, cousins and friends all called on the big strong guy when help was needed. Working cattle operations were often planned around when Marshall would be home to help.

Marshall had met the love of his life in Jayna Gray. She was an immediate hit with the family and fit in just perfect. We could all hear the chime of wedding bells in the future. They were an adorable couple – the ever grinning Marshall with his Jayna with that beautiful smile who barely came up to Marshall’s shoulder!

Marshall always loved to get in the mix with his older brothers, whether playing football with that little orange football in the middle of the living room floor or anything else they were doing! He loved his brothers and was proud of them. Sitting in the stands at an Aggie football game – just so happened that the two guys next to us were Notre Dame fans – Marshall not only regaled them with the fact that his brothers were on the team, but told them he would be playing for the Aggies and told them what year to look for him on the team. While he ended up playing for the Lamar Cardinals, he still loved his Aggies.

We are just now learning of all the things Marshall did for others that we never knew about. His kindness and concern for others was without limits. Marshall did not look for praise when he did things for others – a friend or a stranger was in need and he just never gave it a thought – he just helped. That college friend who had never been on a date – guess who took her on her first date – that friend who needed a confidant – that co-worker who needed a little help with his bills before payday – Marshall was there.

Marshall had his life in order. He worked hard for Halliburton and they valued him as an employee. He was not afraid of hard work and was very conscious about doing what he was supposed to do when he was supposed to do it. Marshall had his plan in place, but God had other plans.

While we are confident that Marshall is in heaven, our hearts are shattered. We don’t understand why, but we will hold fast to our faith and trust God! His ways are not our ways and we may never understand this side of heaven, but we are confident that one day we will see Marshall again. Marshall has probably already been assigned to be someone’s guardian angel. While it will not be easy, Marshall would not want us to be in despair, he would want us to remember the good times, love each other and live our lives to the fullest! Marshall was not one to dwell on bad things and had a positive attitude always. His love for us is everlasting and so is our love for him – the separation will not change that.
