William R. McLaughlin
June 22nd, 1927 - December 14th, 2016

William R. McLaughlin, 89, of Erie, passed away Wednesday, December 14, 2016 at Forestview Skilled Nursing Center. He was born on June 22, 1927 in Erie, son of the late William J. and Mary Ann (Scheloske) McLaughlin.

Bill was a graduate of Academy High School, served in the U. S. Navy during W.W. II, he continued his education at Gannon College and Texas A&M University with a Master’s Degree in Math and Science, working as an Educator and Assistant Principal for the Erie School District. He was a member of the St. George Church. Bill enjoyed travelling, camping, golfing, playing cards (especially Pinochle) and most of all spending time with his family and his grandchildren.

Besides his parents, he was preceded in death by his sister, Betty Russell.

Survivors include his wife of 55 years, Mary Ann (Schellang) McLaughlin; children, Tim McLaughlin (Julie) of Erie, Tom McLaughlin (Loretta) of Wake Forest, NC, Kathy Marsh of Erie, Kris Connelly (Pete) of Erie, Mike McLaughlin (Heather) of Erie; grandchildren, Jen, Matt and Peyton McLaughlin, Melissa Marsh, Jaimie Parmenter, Clay Parmenter, Tyler Connelly and Connor McLaughlin; great grandchildren, Aviah and Kaylin; sisters Audrey Kimball of Erie and Mary Jane McLaughlin of Erie; several nieces and nephews.

The McLaughlin family would like to express their gratitude to Forestview Nursing Center and Great Lakes Hospice for the tremendous care that Bill received during his stay there.

Friends and family may call at Brugger Funeral Homes & Crematory, 1595 West 38th St., at Greengarden Boulevard, on Friday from 4:00 to 7:00 p.m. and are invited to attend a prayer service at the funeral home on Saturday at 9:20 a.m. followed by a funeral mass at St. George Church at 10:00 a.m.

Private burial will be in Wintergreen Gorge Cemetery.

In lieu of flowers memorials may be made to Shriners Hospital for Children – Erie, 1645 W 8th St, Erie, PA 16505 or St. Jude Children’s Research Hospital, 262 Danny Thomas Place, Memphis, TN 38105.
