Stephen Matthew Gibson
Stephen Matthew Gibson, 61, went home to be with his Lord and Savior Jesus Christ on December 4, 2016. Steve was born in Conroe, Texas to Marvin and Hazel Gibson. He grew up travelling all over Texas, Oklahoma, and New Mexico due to his father's occupation as a seismic crew chief, discovering oil and gas. He graduated from Lee High School in Midland, Texas and graduated Magna Cum Laude from Texas A&M University. Steve worked for several years in the oil and gas business as a production and exploration geologist at Gulf, Monsanto, Anadarko, Patterson-Uti Drilling, and EE Partners. He met his wife, Sharon K. Gibson, in Midland, Texas. They were married on November 20, 1982 at First Baptist Church Midland. Steve and Sharon had two children and traveled all across Texas and Oklahoma with job transfers. Sharon recently retired from ConocoPhillips. They celebrated their 34th wedding anniversary on November 20, 2016. Steve had Myotonic Muscular Dystrophy. In spite of all his difficulties, he was a quietly strong and loving person. Steve is survived by his wife of 34 years, Sharon Gibson; his daughter, Ashley Welch and grandson, Trace; his daughter, Kari Jones and husband Bryan; his brother, Mark Gibson and his wife Liz and their sons Stephen, Mark, and John; his brother-in-law, Jim Robbins and his children Katie Guist and her husband Charlie and son Andy Robbins; his brother-in-law, Robert Gish; his sister-in-law, Diane Kuykendall and husband Tommy; and sister-in-law, Janet Burnett and his nephew Dillon. He also is survived by many aunts, uncles, nieces, nephews, and cousins. Steve was preceded in death by his mother, Hazel Hudson Gibson; his father, Marvin A. Gibson; and his sister, Patricia G. Robbins. Viewing will be at Nalley-Pickle & Welch Funeral Home on Wednesday, December 7, 2016 from 10:00 a.m. to 5:00 p.m. Funeral services will be at First Baptist Church Chapel on Thursday, December 8, 2016 at 2:00 p.m. Interment will follow at Resthaven Memorial Park. The family wishes to extend their gratitude to Home Hospice of Midland. In lieu of flowers, memorial donations in Steve's memory may be made to Home Hospice or .
