John Walker(1923 - 2016)
Walker, John Henderson

John Henderson Walker, MD, took his final flight on November 10, 2016. He was born August 29, 1923, in Port Arthur, TX. A proud WWII veteran, he served in the Pacific Theater as a lieutenant in the Naval Air Corps. He served as pilot and navigator in a variety of aircraft, earning the Distinguished Flying Cross, and Air Medal. Upon leaving the service he attended Texas A & M, and later University of Texas Medical Branch, obtaining his Medical Doctorate. He had a varied medical career; General Practice (he actually made house calls), UNM Student Health physician, pathologist for the VA, Professor of Pathology at Medical College of Georgia, and pathologist with the Indian Health Service; finally retiring as a consulting physician for the Social Security DDU. During his life he lived in several states, but New Mexico captured his heart, and he and his wife Hulda returned to Albuquerque in 1980 to enjoy the beauty of the Southwest.

He was preceded in death by wife Hulda, and grandson Tyler.

John is survived by son William and his wife Norma; daughter Barbara, and Priscilla and her husband Tim; grandchildren Cole, Amanda, and Walker; ten great-grandchildren, and many loving family members and friends. Special thanks to everyone at High Desert Hospice who took such good care of him, and the staff of The Robin House who made his final months comfortable.

As per his wishes, his earthly remains have been donated to the UNM Medical School for anatomical research so he could continue teaching.

There will be a memorial service at a future date.
