Sammy G. Helmers, 79, of Stephenville, died Tuesday, Nov. 15, 2016, in Stephenville.

Visitation is from 7 p.m. to 9 p.m. Friday at Stephenville Funeral Home. Funeral service is at 10 a.m. Saturday, Nov. 19, 2016, at Harvey Baptist Church with Anthony Svajda officiating. Burial will follow in Johnson Cemetery.

Sammy was born on Sept. 13, 1937, in San Angelo to the late Alfred and Nora Lee Freeman Helmers. He married Jean Bounds on Aug. 13, 1960, in McCamey, Texas. Sammy grew up in the community of Girvin, Texas, spent several years in the Midland-Odessa area and retired to Stephenville, where he has lived many years. He was a member of the Harvey Baptist Church. Sammy retired after 30 years with the Texas A&M Extension Service as a Horticultural Specialist. He loved being an Aggie, a gardener and rancher and playing dominos and cards.

Sammy is survived by his wife, Jean; daughters Debbie and husband Ricky Carpenter of Stephenville and Donna and husband Mike Pasquino of Aurora, Indiana; grandchildren Kaja Carpenter and Brent and wife Chelsea Carpenter, and their children, Brady, Kylee and Brooks; brother Ellis and wife Lynda Helmers of Sanderson, Texas; sister Vicki and husband Daryl Krug of Fritch, Texas; and several nieces and nephews.

Besides his parents, Sammy was also preceded in death by two nephews, 'little' Alfred Helmers and Jason Helmers.

The Helmers family wishes expressions of sympathy be made in the form of donations to Harvey Baptist Church, Samaritan Place, Camp Summit or .
