James Albert Pulliam

James Albert Pulliam was born on Oct. 19, 1923, in Yellville, Ark., to Zol and Elma Jane Pulliam and died on Nov. 11, 2016 at his home in Heber Springs, Ark.
Jim, known by the nickname Doc, graduated from Texas A&M University in 1944 where he obtained a degree in Veterinary Science. He became an avid Aggie, but would just quietly watch televised games between Arkansas and A&M.
He was a captain in the U.S. Air Force during the Korean War. After his tour of duty, Jim opened a small animal clinic practice in Jonesboro, and started his family with his marriage to Mary Hinkle Castleberry and the adoption of her daughter, Patti.
The family moved to Manila where Jim farmed and raised cattle. It was during this time that he was appointed as the State of Arkansas Veterinarian. He continued agriculture related operations until joining Aromatique in 1985 as Vice President, Systems Development.
After moving to Heber Springs, Jim was active in the First United Methodist Church, as well as being a devoted Rotary Club Member. No task was too small or to large, as he always volunteered for events that helped Heber Springs be a wonderful place to live and work. He led a full life, beneficial to all.
Jim was preceded in death by his parents and his first wife, Mary Hinkle Pulliam.
Survivors include his second wife, Jo Claire Adamson Pulliam, daughter Patricia Pulliam Upton and husband, Richard of Heber Springs, sister Mary Ruth Posta of Richmond, Va., grandchildren Paige Upton (Michelle) of Little Rock and Peyton Upton of Heber Springs, great grandchildren, June Upton of New York City, James Peyton Upton Jr. of Vail, Colo., Jordan Upton of Memphis, Tenn., and Martha Upton of Heber Springs, Ark.
A Memorial Service will be held at the First United Methodist Church, 1099 West Pine Street in Heber Springs on Sunday, November 27, 2015 at 1 p.m. with Reverend Tommy Toombs officiating. The family request that any memorials be made to UAMS Chancellor's Circle, Slot 716, 4301 West Markham Street, Little Rock, Ark. 72205-9985.
