David Redwine

1941-2016

COLORADO CITY- David Heston Redwine, 74, passed away at Providence Hospice Place in Waco on April 25th. A family graveside burial service was held at Chapel Hill Memorial Park in Waco, officiated by Dale Bynum, Associate Pastor of Oakwood Baptist Church in New Braunfels, and under the direction of Waco Memorial funeral home. A memorial service for Mr. Redwine will be held at First Baptist Church in Colorado City at 2:00 p.m. on Friday, April 29, 2016, with Rev. Jerry Shields officiating. A family visitation will follow the service in the Fellowship Hall at the church.

David was born on June 24, 1941 in Mitchell County to William Heston and Geneva Oliver Redwine. He graduated from Loraine High School in 1959, attended Tarleton State University, graduated Texas A&M University in 1964 with a Bachelor of Science degree in Agriculture Science and Education. He completed his Master of Arts Degree in Biology/Parasitology from Southern Methodist University in 1970.

His teaching and coaching career began in Forsan for 13 years, three years in Colorado High School and 19 years at Andrews High School. He taught high school chemistry, physics and geology. Being an avid golfer himself, he coached golf, including the 2A State Championship golf team in 1970, and several state qualifiers in tennis. He also founded and sponsored the Andrews High School Science Club for senior math and science students interested in medical careers.

He retired in 1998, completing 35 years in the field of education. He later returned to Mitchell County where he grew up. David was also a professional photographer, working as a team with his wife under the business name: Redwine Images. He was recognized for both his athletic and lifetime achievements in 2013 with the LHS Wall of Honor Award.

David is survived by his wife, Patricia (Patti) Bodine Redwine of Colorado City; his daughter, Andrea Grimm and husband Bob of Hewitt; his son, Chad Redwine and wife Shawna of Arlington; his son, Brent Henager of The Woodlands; his grandchildren, Anna, Nick, Alex and Abby Petrini, Jay and Pierce Grimm, Jantzen and Jaiden Redwine, Duncan Hanger and Brayden Shows. Also surviving are his brother, Don Redwine and wife Elizabeth; his sister, Sharon Hammond and husband Morris, all of Colorado City; his mother-in-law, Margaret Bodine of New Braunfels; sisters-in-law, Brenda Isgitt and husband Steve of Wimberley, Vickie Bynum and husband Dale of New Braunfels, Marla Stevens and husband Dan of Montgomery, Nina Benham and husband Tim of Lubbock; brother-in-law, Blake Bodine and wife Kelli of Abilene. Numerous nieces, nephews, cousins, and a host of friends also survive.
He was preceded by his parents, Heston and Geneva Redwine; and by his father-in-law, Truman Bodine.

In lieu of flowers, the family requests that memorials be made to Mitchell County Hospital, to Providence Hospice Place in Waco, or to the charity of one’s choice.
