LAFAYETTE - Funeral services will be held on Saturday, November 12, 2016 at an 11:00 AM Mass of Christian Burial in Holy Cross Catholic Church in Lafayette for Ferdinand "Fred" Louis Dischler, 82, who died peacefully on Thursday, November 10, 2016 at his residence in Lafayette surrounded by his family.

Interment will be in Fountain Memorial Gardens Cemetery.

Reverend Steve LeBlanc, Pastor of St. Pius X Catholic Church in Lafayette, will be the Celebrant of the funeral Mass and will conduct the funeral services. Lectors will be Haily Celestin and Kaci Misita. Giftbearers will be his granddaughters. Karen Broussard, organist and soloist, will sing for the services, "Make Me A Channel of Your Peace", "The 23rd Psalm", "Be Not Afraid", "Hail Mary, Gentle Woman" and "On Eagles' Wings". Ronald Dischler, Sr. will give the Eulogy.

He leaves to cherish his memory, his beloved wife of 60 years, Wanda George Dischler; three daughters, Pam Celestin, Angie Lippman and her husband, David, Stephanie Misita; three sons, Ronald Dischler, Sr. and his wife, Janell, Greg Dischler, and Tim Dischler and his wife, Becky; four sisters, Ceile Landry, Julia Thompson, Marjorie Walker and her husband, Bobby and Carol Leonards and her husband, Lawrence; two brothers, Michael Dischler and his wife, Barbara and Thomas Dischler; sixteen grandchildren; and two great-grandchildren.

He was preceded in death by his parents, Charles and Clara Olinger Dischler; three brothers, Alvin, Charles and Robert Dischler; and two sisters, Barbara Reed and Clarice Steward.

Ferdinand Louis Dischler was a native of Crowley, Louisiana and resident of Lafayette for over 76 years. Fred, as he was known by family and friends, was a graduate of Menard Academy High School and Texas A & M College of Engineering, and worked as a Geologist in the Oil & Gas Industry until 1982. He was on the Board of Directors at The Petroleum Club in Lafayette and was a member of the St. Pius X Catholic Church Community in Lafayette. At the time of his death, Mr. Dischler was a consultant for the maritime industry.

One of Fred's many passions was clay shooting and bird hunting at the camp with his family & friends. Fred was always there to lend a helping hand. The excitement in his voice when someone called for his help on a project was undeniable. His intelligence and attention to detail could solve any project given to him, and he was always happy to coach and educate. Most importantly, nothing lit up Fred's eyes like being with his family, especially his grandchildren. Fred's heart was his family, and his whistle will always be remembered in our hearts.

Pallbearers will be Ronald Dischler, Sr., Gregory Dischler, Timothy Dischler, Ronald "Charlie" Dischler, Jr., Chad Celestin and Nicholas Misita. Honorary pallbearers will be Michael Lippman, Adam Broussard and David Lippman.

A Rosary will be recited on Friday, November 11, 2016 at 6:30 PM in Martin & Castille's SOUTHSIDE Location.

The family requests that visitation be observed on Friday from 4:00 PM to 9:00 PM and will continue on Saturday from 9:00 AM until time of services.

Memorial contributions may be made in Mr. Dischler's name to NSI Hospice, 1025 Camellia Blvd, Lafayette, LA 70508 or St. Jude Hospital, 262 Danny Thomas Place, Memphis, TN 38105.

The family would like to give special thanks to the nurses and staff of NSI Hospice and A Care Partner for their kindness, compassion, and gentle care given to Mr. Dischler during his time of need.
