Gerard (Jerry) Boe
Gerard (Jerry) Boe Gerard (Jerry) Boe, 80, of Lady's Island, died Saturday, October 22, 2016 at PruittHealth Estill, South Carolina Jerry was born in Washington, DC on January 20, 1936. He is survived by his wife, Charlotte Greene Boe; a sister Nora Eileen Lankford; his son Steven Allan Boe of Harlem, GA; a daughter, Christine Ann Laundon of Fuquay-Varina, NC; and a step-daughter Kimberly Kinane of Greenville, SC. He is also survived by four grandsons and one granddaughter. He received his B.S. degree from West Virginia Wesleyan College and received his MS in Clinical Pathology from Ohio State University, and his Ph.D. from Texas A&M University. Jerry graduated from the United States Marine 26th OCC at Quantico, VA and served his initial tour of duty was as an Air Intelligence Officer at MCAS, Beaufort, SC. He transferred into the US Army Medical Service Corps where he held both staff and supervisory positions to include S2/3 68th Medical Group, Ft. Meade, MD; Administrative Assistant to the Division Surgeon, 3rd Infantry Division; Laboratory Officer, 3rd Field Hospital Wurzburg, Germany; OIC, United States Army, Vietnam (USARV) Central Blood Bank; Chief, Special Subjects Branch, Chief, Hematology Branch at the Academy of Health Sciences; and Administrative Chief, Department of Pathology, Dwight David Eisenhower Army Medical Center. He was a founding member of the Society of Air Force Medical Laboratory Scientists, (SAFMLS), and the first Army Officer to be admitted. He served on the Board of Directors. He was National President of the International Society for Clinical Laboratory Technology; was President, Augusta Chapter for the American Society for Training and Development; President of Augusta Chapter of the International Management Council; and Chairman, Board of Regents, Institute of Certified Professional Managers. His honors and awards include: For Federal service The Bronze Star; Meritorious Service Medal; Army Commendation Medal with Oak Leaf; Armed Forces Expeditionary Medal; National Defense Medal; Vietnam Service Medal; Republic of Vietnam Campaign Medal; Vietnam Gallantry Medal. For his service with the South Carolina State Guard he received the Service Ribbon; Military Readiness Ribbon; Emergency Service Training Ribbon and the Cold War Ribbon. A graveside service, with full military honors, for Jerry will be held 12:00 noon, Monday, October 31st at Beaufort National Cemetery with The Doctor Reverend Patrick Perryman officiating In lieu of flowers, the family requests donations be made to Chain Free Beaufort, Post Office Box 2496, Beaufort, SC 29901 or to the dog rescue charity of the donor's choice.
