~James Edwin (J.E.) Mudd~

YOAKUM: James Edwin (J.E.) Mudd died on Friday, October 21, 2016. He was born in Kenedy on September 19, 1922 to O.J. and Frances Kelly Mudd.

J.E. graduated from St. Joseph Catholic High School in 1939. He was Class of 1943 from Texas A&M University. His A&M class was accelerated and they graduated in three and a half years so they could join the Armed Services in fighting WW II. J.E. served in the U.S. Army in Asia and Africa for almost four years. One of these years he was privileged to attend Midnight Mass in Bethlehem. After his discharge he remained in the Army Reserves untill 1960 retiring as a Lieutenant Colonel.

J.E. married Otelia Chilek on December 6, 1943 in St. Agnes Catholic Church in San Antonio. After being discharged from the Army J.E. and Tillie moved to Sinton where he worked for the Welfare Department. In 1956 J.E. bought an interest in Cuero Livestock Commission, Inc where he was the office manager for thirty years.

Mr. Mudd was a past director on the Yoakum hospital board and a past director of First State Bank in Yoakum. J.E. was also past president of the St. Joseph PTC, Grand Knight for the Knights of Columbus, Fourth Degree Knight and was a Knight of St. Gregory. He also worked with the Boy Scouts even making a trip to Philmont in New Mexico with them.

Owning and taking care of cattle was also a big part of J.E.'s life. There was always some projects that needed his attention.

J.E. enjoyed having his children and grandchildren come visit. He always had a story to tell.

Preceding J.E. in death were his parents and his two sisters, Lucille Navickas and Nell Wasek. Surviving him are wife and children Jimmy (Shirley Ann), Janice (Tom Milholland), Phyllis (Dean Mill), Eunice (Scott Hester), and Dennis (Jaime). He is also survived by nine grandchildren and eighteen great-grandchildren.

Visitation from 5-7 p.m. followed by a rosary at 7 p.m. on Sunday, October 23, 2016 at Thiele-Cooper Funeral Home.

Funeral Mass at 10 a.m. on Monday, October 24, 2016 at St. Joseph Catholic Church with Rev. Matthew Huehlefeld officiating. Burial at St. Joseph Catholic Cemetery.

Pallbearers: Jeff Mill, Randy Mill, Galen Mudd, Brandon Mudd, Matt Leonard, Mike Lemonds and Tim Novak.

Memorial may be made to St. Joseph School Endowment Fund.
