Glen E Black
July 6, 1930 - October 24, 2016

Glen Elwood Black, 86, of Belton passed away on Monday, October 24, 2016 in Belton.

A graveside service for Mr. Black will be held on Friday, October 28, 2016 at 10:00 AM at Dillingham Cemetery in Briggs, Texas with Rev. Glenn Hubbard officiating. Following the graveside service, a memorial service will be held at 2:00 PM at Lakeview Baptist Church in Temple with Rev. Hubbard officiating.

Glen was born on July 6, 1930 in Killeen, Texas to Floyd and Annie (Henderson) Black and was raised and attended schools in Killeen. Mr. Black received his Bachelor’s Degree from Texas A&M University. Glen was employed as a soil conservationist with the USDA until his retirement. Mr. Black married LaVerne Smith on January 3, 1953 Harlingen, Texas and they were married for almost 60 years before she passed away in 2012.

Mr. Black is survived by his sons Gregory A. Black and his wife Michele of Edwardsburg, MI. and Michael G. Black and his wife Jeanne of Bristol, TN., sister Sarah Lane of Temple, grandchildren Sarah Black Payne and her husband Clayton, Glen E. Black and his wife Elena, John Black, and Jason Black, and great grandchildren Emma Black, Lydia Black, and Cody Payne.

A visitation will be held on Thursday evening from 6-8 PM at Dossman Funeral Home in Belton.

In lieu of flowers, donations may be made in Mr. Black’s memory to the Lakeview Baptist Church Building Fund, 7717 State Hwy 317, Belton, Texas 76513.

Obituary sent by family at his request

Glen E Black passed away on October 24, 2016 in Belton Texas. He graduated from Texas A&M in 1951 with a degree in Agricultural Education. Upon graduation he was commissioned as a 2nd Lieutenant and served a two year commitment. He spent his last six months in Korea where he was promoted to Captain.

After discharge he began his career with the Soil Conservation Service. He retired as the Associate Director of the Fort Worth Southern Technical Service Center after 32 years of service.

He was preceded in death by his wife of 59 ½ years, LaVerne. He has two children, four grandchildren and 3 great grandchildren.
