John Norris Henshaw
(Died October 19, 2016)
John Norris Henshaw, age 71 died Wed. 10/19/2016 after fighting end-stage renal disease for the past four years. He and his wife Janie Stevenson Henshaw had moved from Henshaw to Henderson, KY where he received dialysis and lived out his life.
John was born August 13, 1945 to Morton and Mary Frances Henshaw. He graduated in 1963 from Sturgis High School and received his BS at Western Kentucky University in Bowling Green where he majored in agriculture. in 1969, he earned the first masters degree in agriculture awarded at the university. John then went to Texas A&M and earned his Ph.D. in plant breeding and worked a year there in the wheat breeding department before accepting a position at LSU in Baton Rouge, LA as a corn breeder. After working there for 9 years, John was offered a position as a tropical crops specialist by USAID with the ACRE Project in Sierra Leone, West Africa and stayed there 2 years.
After becoming farm manager of Abiola Farms in Nigeria, John lived in Africa for the next 16 years helping to achieve better crop yields. A military coup in Nigeria forced him to come back to Sturgis where he drove a semi-truck until he had a stroke which left him partially paralyzed in 1999.
While living in Henshaw, John and Janie attended Henshaw Christian Church where they were both members. He went to church whenever he could and both of them still consider all of the members there to be family.
He is preceded in death by his parents, Morton and Mary Frances Henshaw; sister, Kay Sharon Berry; sister-in-law Cecilia Henshaw.

3 Daughters: Debra L. Grierson and husband Mark of Houston, TX Shelley June Williams and husband Jeffrey of Cypress, TX Andrea Biddle Troutman and husband Timothy of Fayetteville, TN
6 Grandchildren
3 Brothers-in-law: Whayne Berry of Morganfield, KY Fred Stevenson of Sturgis, KY John A. Arnold and his wife Sandy of Sturgis, KY
Several beloved cousins, nieces, and nephews
Funeral service will be 2PM Sun. 10/23/2016 at Whitsell Funeral Home in Sturgis, KY. Preacher Jim Lane will officiate. Burial will be in Pythian Ridge Cemetery in Sturgis. Visitation will be 4-8PM Sat. and 11AM until service time on Sunday at the funeral home. Memorial contributions can be made to Henshaw Christian Church.
