Charles Holman Lilienstern
July 22, 1914 - September 30, 2016

Holman Lilienstern, born on the 22nd of July, 1914, in Mt. Pleasant, Texas to the late Aileen Holman and the late Eugene S. Lilienstern, passed away on September 30, 2016. He was 102. Holman was a prominent attorney for the City of Texas City and the TCISD who retired from law practice in 1995. He was a devoted husband, a caring father, grandfather, and great-grandfather and friend to many.

Holman was the epitome of a southern gentleman. He began each day with a stretch, a jog, and in later life a walk, thanking the Lord for his good health. He gathered friends wherever he went, charming them with his smile and brilliant mind. His charm guaranteed a rich and long-lasting career. He obtained his LLB law degree from the University of Texas in 1937, the same year he married Laura Herring. They had two children, Daniel Morris Lilienstern, and James ''Jim'' Lilienstern, both deceased.

He practiced law in Mt. Pleasant, Texas with a short interruption with service in the army during WWII. He proudly holds the rank of Lt. Colonel retired. Once the war ended, he returned to Mt. Pleasant to practice law. He ran for and was elected as City Attorney of that city, and remained in that position until he moved to Texas City, Texas to open a law practice with his friend Dean Nugent. In Texas City, Holman became a prominent City attorney, community member. In 1989 Holman married Marjorie Schmidt and enjoyed twenty happy years until her death in 2008. Holman was fiercely independent, of high moral fiber, and deeply religious, and active member of The United Methodist Church. He was respected for his integrity, legal skill, and charm. He gave more generously than most people knew, helping family members in time of need, without expecting anything in return.

Survivors include daughter in law, Jodeene Lilienstern, granddaughter Barbara Hicks, granddaughter Cathy Giles, grandson Daniel Morris Lilienstern Jr., great-grandson Jonathon Hicks, great-granddaughter April Hicks and Sara Garcia, great-great grandchildren Sophie Renz, Baylee Henry and Kaydence Hicks.

Don't grieve for me, for now I am free. I'm following the path God laid out for me. I took his hand when I heard him call. I turned my back and left it all. I could not stay another day to laugh, to love, to work or play. Tasks left undone must stay that way. I found that peace at the close of the day. If my passing has left a void, then fill it with remembered joy. A friendship shared, a laugh, a kiss. Ah ...yes, these things I too will miss. Be not burdened with times of sorrow. I wish you the sunshine of tomorrow. My life's been full, I savored much. Good friends, good times, a loved one's touch. Perhaps my time seemed all to brief. Don't lengthen it now with undue grief. Lift up your hearts and share with me. God wanted me now; He set me free.
