Charles A. Bradshaw
1931 - 2016

Charles Anderson Bradshaw, 85, of Whittier NC passed away peacefully at his home on Sunday, Oct. 2, 2016, while surrounded by loved ones, following a period of declining health.

He was born February 28, 1931 in Crockett, TX to Lee and Ella Mae (Johnson) Bradshaw. At the age of 17, he enlisted in the Marine Corps where he proudly served during the Korean Conflict. For his time served he received many medals and honors, including the Korean Freedom Medal. He was honorably discharged in 1951.

While serving his country, he married his beautiful wife, Eleanor, in 1950. As a young husband and father, Charles attended Texas A & M and graduated with his Bachelors in Engineering in 1957.

After graduation, he worked as a Safety Engineer for Boston Ins. Co. covering oil rigs in Louisiana. Later he worked as an Industrial Arts Teacher at Hixson Jr. High School in Hixson, TN. Through the years, he worked as an owner/operator of several businesses; most recently, Pinecrest Self Storage in Whittier.

Charles was preceded in death by his wife of 64 years, Eleanor, his parents, his brothers and sisters, and an infant granddaughter.

He is survived by his 3 children; Linda Sawyer and husband David of Bryson City, Terry (Gail) Bass and husband Barry of Helena MT, and Charles E. Bradshaw and wife Cindy of Rossville GA., and special niece, Amy Klieman and husband Louis of Alexandria Va. He is also survived by 6 grandchildren, 8 great grandchildren and 3 step-great grandchildren, and many nieces and nephews.

Visitation will be from 1 – 2pm on Thursday, October 6th at Appalachian Funeral Home in Sylva. Funeral service will follow at 2; Pastor Shane Roughton officiating. Interment will follow at the family cemetery in Whittier.

Charles was a long time board member for the Qualla Volunteer Fire Department. In lieu of flowers, the family asks that donations be made to the Qualla Volunteer Fire Department at PO Box 303 Whittier, NC or the American Cancer Society, 120 Executive Park #120, Asheville, NC 28801.
