Obituary sent by children

Joe “Slim” Howard Tableman, Class of 1942 recently joined our Lord. Upon graduation, Slim and his fellow Aggies went directly to WWII service. He went on to command C Battery, 231st Field Artillery(M) with Arthur Marston (Class of 1943) as his XO, engaged in every combat campaign from Normandy to Germany as part of Patton’s 3rd Army. His younger brother Glen, Aggie Bugler 1942, went on to pilot B-17s, completing 8+ combat missions.

With the war won, Joe returned to his family in Cisco, Texas and quickly headed to Los Angeles where he started his civilian life, living with a bunch of 231st war buddies. He married Jean Moser and started a successful logistics career.

After Jean passed away, Joe married Helen Prescott. They enjoyed over 25 years of travel and the joy of nurturing their combined five children and six grandchildren.

As Joe neared the completion of his life of adventure, his thoughts and stories always carried the importance and meaning gained from the Corps of Cadets, classmates, Aggie values and just plain funny cadet stories --- just as they had framed and nurtured Joe Tableman’s life.
