Humberto A. Garcia
July 19, 1959 - September 25, 2016

Humberto Avelino Garcia, 57, passed away peacefully on September 25, 2016 at home in Houston, TX. He was born on July 19, 1959 in Havana, Cuba to Humberto and Alicia Garcia.
Bert grew up in Houston and graduated from Alief Hastings High School in 1978. After high school he attended Texas A&M University in College Station, TX where he received a degree in Civil Engineering in 1981. He worked at Texaco for 20 years as a Petroleum Engineer and then at Shell Oil for 15 years as a Safety and Environmental Engineer.
Bert married Denise Byington in 1988 in Houston, TX. They were happily married for 28 years. Bert loved traveling, fishing, drinking Scotch and smoking fine cigars.
Bert is survived by his mother Alicia Garcia, his wife Denise, and his daughter Caroline all of Houston, TX. He also left behind numerous cousins from both Houston, TX and Miami, FL.

Bert was preceded in death by his father Humberto Avelino Garcia of Cardenas, Cuba.
A funeral mass will be held at Holy Ghost Catholic Church 6921 Chetwood Dr. Houston, TX 77081 at 10am on Saturday October 1, 2016. A wake will be held at Distinctive Life Funeral home, 5455 Dashwood St. 100 Bellaire, TX 77401 from 7-9pm on Friday, September, 30, 2016.

In lieu of flowers the family requests memorial donations be made to MDAnderson Cancer Center, Pancreatic Cancer Moonshot Program. Condolences may be left on Bert Garcia’s online guest book at Distinctive Life.com
