LTC Leon E. Leeper, USA, Retired
April 18, 1934 - September 3, 2016

Leon “Lee” E. Leeper, age 82, peacefully passed away September 3, 2016 at his home in Georgetown where he lived with his wife over the past fourteen years. He was born April 18, 1934 in Rockdale, Texas.

Leon lived a wonderful life. He spent most of his childhood in Killeen and graduated from Fort Hood High School in 1953. With strong encouragement and support from his longtime friend Don Adam, he graduated from Texas A&M University in 1959. Following his graduation, he began his service in the United States Army and proudly served for 22 years. He was stationed in Korea, served two tours in Vietnam, and had assignments in California, Virginia, France, and Germany. He was the recipient of the Bronze Star Medal and many other military commendations. He married the love of his life Barbara Elaine Elson on December 9, 1961. Their two children, Kathryn and Scott, shared in their many adventures of traveling in Washington DC and Europe. Leon was known for his quick wit and viewed as a gentle soul by those who knew him best. He loved to travel and would tease his kids to “get their heads out of the floorboard” and enjoy the sights.

Leon was preceded in death by his parents, John and Alma Leeper; two sisters: Clarice and Lois; and brother, Delbert.

Leon is survived by his wife, Barbara; daughter, Kathryn; and son, Scott. He leaves behind his grandchildren who knew him as “granpa” as well as nieces and nephews who dearly loved their Uncle Leon.

A time of visitation will be held from 6:00 to 8:00 p.m. on Monday, September 12th at Ramsey Funeral Home. The funeral service will be held at 11:00 a.m. on Tuesday, September 13th in the Chapel of Ramsey Funeral Home. Burial will follow at 1:00 p.m. at Central Texas State Veterans Cemetery in Killeen, Texas with full military honors.
