Dr. Henry William Post(1923 - 2016)
Lexington

Post, Dr. Henry William,

husband of Angeline (Goodwyn) Post, died Saturday, September 10, 2016 at home at The Lafayette in Lexington.

Born in Haskell, Texas, on September 16, 1923, he was the son of Marvin and Gladys (Huckabee) Post. A graduate of Texas A&M University, he served in the Army in World War II before receiving his medical degree at Tulane University in New Orleans where he met his beloved wife. Following his residency in Detroit, Michigan, he was an eminent cardiologist in Louisville, Kentucky, for over 30 years, saving many lives. He and his wife raised seven children. He showed them by his kind example how to live a good life. He was much loved and respected by his patients, for whom he made house calls, by his professional colleagues, and by the community around him. He was an Elder at Highland Presbyterian Church. In 1988 he retired, climbed Mount Rainier in Washington, and with his wife built a home of old hand-hewn logs taken from Kentucky to the Wind River Mountains in Dubois, Wyoming. From those mountains he took stone and cut it for his chimney. He loved fishing, hunting, backpacking, bicycling, swimming, tennis, cross-country skiing, and cutting wood to warm his home, welcoming family and friends with his story telling. He contributed lovingly to the Dubois community. A generous friend, he helped establish a physician's assistant residence, build a bridge over the Wind River, and plant trees along the highway. He was an active member of St. Thomas' Episcopal church. After more than 20 years in Wyoming, he and his wife moved to Lexington. They were members of Second Presbyterian Church.

He was preceded in death by his parents, his sisters Marvina Hauger and Martha Unruh, and his daughter, Dr. Martha Post of Lexington. Surviving are his wife of 66 years; sons Charles Post (wife Pamela) of Harrisburg, PA, and James Post (wife Mary Ann) of Tyler, TX; daughters Jennifer Peavey (husband John) of Liberty, KY, Laura Post of Ann Arbor, MI, Margaret Duncan (husband Art) of Floyd's Knobs, IN, and Elizabeth Post (husband Randy) of Lexington; sister Dorothy Sanderson of Cody, WY; son-in-law Robert Truitt of Lexington; sister-in-law Lillian Goodwyn of Destin, FL; 13 grandchildren, three great grandchildren, cousins, nieces and nephews. All he loved well.

A celebration of his life will be held 11 a.m. Saturday, September 17, at Second Presbyterian Church, 460 East Main Street, Lexington, KY, the Rev. Dr. Daniel T. Hans officiating, followed by a reception. Kerr Brothers - E. Main in charge of arrangements. In lieu of flowers, donations are suggested to Cure Alzheimer's Fund, 34 Washington St. Suite 200, Wellesley Hills, MA 02481.
