Elliott, Jr.
1925 - 2016

Spencer M. Elliott Jr. passed away Friday, August 26, 2016 in Houston Texas with his family at his side. He was preceded in death by his wife Totsy, his mother Katie Elliott, his father Spencer Elliott, his sister Francis Elliott and his brother Billy Elliott.

He is survived by his son and daughter-in-law, Phillip and Shelley Elliott of Houston Texas and two grandchildren: Claire Elliott of Houston and Maggie Elliott of Houston.

Spencer was born in Corsicana, Texas on August 19, 1925 to Spencer M. Elliott and the former Katie Graham. He graduated from Corsicana High School in 1942. Soon after graduation, he entered the United States Army. He received training in Camp Hood and was then deployed with the 95th Infantry Division. During his time with the 95th, he served in an anti-tank battalion in France, Belgium and Germany. After the surrender of Germany, Spencer was assigned to Camp Shelby, Mississippi and received his honorable discharge in 1946.
Spencer returned to Texas and resumed his education. He received his Bachelor’s degree in Agricultural Education from Texas A&M in 1950. He taught Agriculture in the Corsicana area for two years. Then, he started a crude oil trucking business. Later, he expanded into oilfield supply by creating SE Pump and Supply Co. He continued in the oilfield supply business until 1967.

Next, Spencer began his second career in accounting. He returned to college to study accounting and apprenticed under Philip DeFranco in Corsicana. Then, he started his own business in Fairfield Texas known as Bi-Stone Data Corp. dedicated to accounting write-up and tax work. He cultivated a loyal clientele and became a trusted advisor to many people in Freestone County. He sold Bi-Stone in 1999 but continued to prepare tax returns for clients through the year 2016.

He married the former Totsy Tinkle in 1948. They celebrated 60 years of marriage in 2008. They enjoyed traveling with friends throughout the world. They also enjoyed visits from their granddaughters during summer vacation.

Spencer was a member of the Westminster Presbyterian Church of Corsicana, the Veterans of Foreign Wars and a long-standing member of the Texas A&M Century Club.

Visitation will be held at Corley Funeral Home, 418 North 13th Street, Corsicana from 6 to 8 p.m. on Thursday, September 1, 2016. A funeral service will be held Friday, September 2, 2016 at 2 p.m. at Westminster Presbyterian Church, 312 North 13th Street, Corsicana with Dr. Bob Young officiating. Interment will follow in the Oakwood Cemetery.
