Lewis Ely
September 25, 1922 - September 1, 2016
Lewis Ely, 93, passed away September 1, 2016. Preceded in death by his loving wife of 65 years, Charlotte; parents, Sam and Rebecca Ely; and brother, Morris Ely. Survived by his daughter Shelly Ely, son Neal Ely, and granddaughter Holly Healy. He was and is dearly loved by many wonderful friends and extended family.
Lewis graduated from Forest Avenue High School and attended Texas A & M University. He served courageously in the Army Air Corps in the Pacific during World War II and survived over 200 air raids on Okinawa. He and his unit received the Presidential Unit Award for their distinguished service in combat.
Lewis was a wonderful, loving husband, father and friend with a quick wit and keen sense of humor. He embodied a rare combination of strength, sweetness, character and integrity.
Graveside services will be held Sunday, September 4, 2016, at 10:30 a.m. at Temple Emanu-El Cemetery, 3430 Howell St., Dallas, TX 75204. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to Operation Kindness or SPCA of Texas.
