Herman J. "Hank" Bauer
January 9, 1933 - August 24, 2016

Herman J. “Hank” Bauer died August 24, 2016 after a hard struggle with pulmonary fibrosis. He was born in Logansport, Indiana January 9, 1933.
He was preceded in death by his wife of 34 years, Mary Elizabeth (Boncyk) Bauer; his parents, Herman E. and Teresa (Schnitz) Bauer of Logansport, Indiana; his brothers Raymond, Charles, and Thomas; and his son Stephen Edward.
He is survived by his wife, Evelyn B. Bauer; his sisters Rosemary Bauer of Logansport, Indiana, and Sister Loretta Bauer, SSND of Huntington, Indiana; sons and daughters-in-law, David A, and Cheryl Bauer of Richmond, and Daniel and Deborah Bauer of Roanoke; and grandchildren, Katherine Bauer of Anniston, Alabama, Benjamin, Nicholas, and Rebecca Bauer of Roanoke. After service in the US Army, Hank earned his BS at Purdue University, his MS at Texas A&M and his PhD from Purdue in Agronomy. He worked as an agronomist for the National Fertilizer Development Center, a division of the Tennessee Valley Authority for 29 years. His family would like to thank all of his neighbors in Roanoke and Estero, FL for all of their love and kindness, especially George and Sherry Dehart who have taken special care of Dad. Hank was generous to numerous charities and would be honored best by donations to good causes. Funeral Mass will be held at Our Lady of Perpetual Help, Salem, with burial to follow at St. Andrews Cemetery.
