DAVID FRANK LEATHERWOOD

LAKE JACKSON - David Frank Leatherwood, 63, of Lake Jackson went to be with the Lord August 1, 2016, passing away unexpectedly at his home. He was born July 3, 1953 in Victoria to Arthur and Betty Jean Lowry Leatherwood. He was baptized at First United Methodist Church on November 1, 1963 and again as an adult on August 5, 2012 at Willow Drive Baptist Church.

He is survived by his mother, Betty Jean Lowry Leatherwood of Victoria; daughter, Sara Harding and husband, Randy of Fredericksburg; son, Kevin Leatherwood of Houston; mother of his children, Sandra Leatherwood; sisters, Carol Leatherwood Anderson and Darla Thomas and husband, Randy, all of Victoria; fiance, Alma Partida of Victoria; nieces, nephews and cousins.

David was preceded in death by grandparents, Isaac and Nettie Lingo Leatherwood and Frank and Bessie Pooler Lowry; his father, Arthur Neil Leatherwood and numerous aunts and uncles.

David graduated from Victoria High School in 1971. He attended Texas State before joining the U.S. Army in 1972. He served in the Army as a Pharmaceutical Technician until 1975. He then enrolled at Texas A & M University and was a proud member of the Fightin' Texas Aggie Class of 1977. He obtained his pilot's license and flew as a courier pilot and as a corporation pilot. In 1987 he became a pilot for Southwest Airlines flying out of Houston Hobby Airport. He attained the rank of Captain in 1991, and was actively flying until his death. David was also an FFDO Officer with Southwest for the last 10 years.

David was a Mason and a Shriner. He opened a martial arts school in Lake Jackson in 1995. He had a 1st Degree in Jujitsu, was a 2nd Degree black belt in Taekwondo and was a certified scuba diving instructor. He and his family had many scuba diving adventures to many parts of the world. He was also an avid fisherman, hunter, musician, photographer and golfer and enjoyed doing all of these things with friends and family.

A memorial service will be held Saturday, August 6, 2016 at 11 am at First United Methodist Church in Victoria. Flag folding under the auspices of the Victoria Veterans Council will follow the memorial service.
