Leslie Harold Eberspacher (Lou) went to meet his Redeemer and Savior Lord Jesus on Saturday, August 13th. He was 94 years of age. Lou was born March 16, 1922 to Otto Eberspacher of Angleton, Texas and Erna Bertha Zeplin of Victoria, Texas. His grandparents both immigrated from Germany. Lou was raised on a cattle ranch near Angleton and attended Angleton schools where he graduated in 1939.
He attended Texas A&M University and graduated with a BS degree in Electrical Engineering in 1943 at age 20. His final year there he was company commander and his entire class was accelerated to graduate early because of WWII. He entered the Army immediately in January 1943. He served 3 ½ years in the Pacific theatre in New Guinea, the Philippines and Japan. He attained the rank of Captain before he was discharged in late 1946.
Shortly after his arrival home, Lou was employed by The Dow Chemical Company in Freeport, Texas. Soon his cousin, Rosemary Petersen, also an employee introduced him to her co-worker and the love of his life, Shirley Jean Williams of Freeport. They were married on November 6, 1948. Their wonderful daughter, Carla, was born in July, 1953. She has always been the pride of their lives.
After 34 years with Dow Chemical Co. he retired in 1981. During his tenure he served in multiple electrical fields including, maintenance, operations, and Engineering & Construction Services (E&CS). He became superintendent of the largest privately owned industrial electrical power distribution system in the world.
He and his wife were raised in Christian homes and were both members of the First Baptist Church in Angleton. He served on several committees for years and was ordained a deacon in 1978. He was remembered for giving many small pocket crosses to his Christian friends and family.
He was preceded in death by his parents and two brothers, Clifton (Clif) Eberspacher and Nelson E (Boots) Eberspacher. He is survived by his daughter Carla, son-in-law Larry Butcher, his granddaughter Brandy Singley, grandson-in-law Russell Singley and his namesake great granddaughter, Leslie Jean. He is also survived by numerous nieces and nephews and their families.
One of the highlights of his life was in 2011 when he and his brother Boots were honored guests on a Texas Dow Honor Flight. He and many other veterans spent a day in Washington, D.C. visiting war memorials including the WWII memorial.
A memorial service to celebrate his life will be held on Saturday, August 20, at Palms Funeral Home in Angleton, Texas. Visitation will be held at 1 pm followed by the memorial service at 2 pm. The family requests in lieu of flowers that donations be made to the Community Food Pantry. Checks should be payable to First Baptist Church, 237 E. Locust Street, Angleton, TX 77515 please note Food Pantry in the memo field. Donations may also be made to American Legion James Anderson Post 561, P O Box 499, Brazoria, TX 77422.
