1952 - 2016

Former Cleburne resident Philip Kent died Sunday, August 21, 2016 in Fort Worth after a brief battle with cancer.
Funeral services are set for Friday, August 26, 2016, 10 a.m. at Rosser Funeral Home in Cleburne. A graveside service is scheduled for Friday, August, 26, 2016, 3:00pm at the Hudson Family Cemetery in Tyler in East Texas.
Visitation will be held from 6 – 8 p.m. Thursday, August 25, 2016 at Rosser Funeral Home.
Officiating at the funeral will be Kent’s cousin, the Rev. Brian Jackson of Greenbrier Baptist Church in Alvarado.
The 64-year-old chemical engineer oversaw construction and initial operation of the SACHEM, Inc. manufacturing facility in Cleburne. He also led operations for the company in Japan, China, Korea and Taiwan. He was manager of the company’s plant in Austin, Texas at the time of his death.
The Tyler native held bachelor’s degrees in chemical engineering from Texas A&M University and in geology from Stephen F. Austin University.
A gifted musician, Kent was church pianist at Cleburne Bible Church during the 10 plus years he and his family lived in Cleburne.
He was a man of many talents, ranging from gardening to home remodeling to learning to speak Japanese. He and his wife, Chiemi Maruo, traveled all over the world. They met and married in Japan.
Other survivors include his son, James Kent; his daughter and son-in-law, Dustin and Linda Bennett; grandsons, Leyton Kent and Jackson Bennett; sister, Kay Kent Blow; brother-in-law, Alfred “Dick” Pate; and many other beloved family and friends.
He was preceded in death by his father, Otto Kent; mother, Helen Kent Phelps; sisters, Linda Ruth Kent and Sydney Pate; brother, Jan Kent; and brother-in-law, Alton “Skeet” Blow.

The 1970 graduate of John Tyler High School held degrees in chemical engineering from Texas A&M University and geology from Stephen F. Austin University. He began his studies at Tyler Junior College.

He was manager of the SACHEM, Inc. chemical manufacturing plant in Austin, Texas.

A gifted musician, Kent had served as church pianist for congregations in Tyler, Cleburne and Osaka, Japan.

He is survived by his wife, Chiemi Maruo; son, James Kent; daughter and son-in-law, Dustin and Linda Bennett; grandsons, Leyton Kent and Jackson Bennett; sister, Kay Kent Blow; brother-in-law, Alfred "Dick" Pate; and many other beloved family and friends.
