October 7, 1946 - August 17, 2016

Fortunato "Benny" Benavides passed from this life to his eternal home on August 17, 2016 in Pecos, Texas. Benny was born on October 7, 1946 in Eagle Pass, TX, the oldest of four children. He then lived in San Antonio until the age of 12 before returning to Eagle Pass where he graduated high school. Through his life he earned the nicknames of "Benny", "The Colonel" and his sisters called him "Juno".

Benny graduated from Eagle Pass High School and went on to excel at Texas A&M University, earning a degree in Mechanical Engineering in 1969. While attending A&M, he served in the Corps of Cadets for four years and graduated as a 2nd Lieutenant. Benny completed an MBA degree from Lamar University in 1974. He made his career specializing in the Oil and Gas Industry for 47 years.

Family and friends knew Benny as being a truly loving person with total commitment to his family. His children beamed with pride about Dad and how he was such a dedicated father, example and friend. Benny's favorite place to be was Lake Whitney, surrounded by wildlife and his loving family. He enjoyed dove and deer hunting as well as anything that took him outdoors. Benny loved watching football, especially his beloved Aggies. His Catholic heritage gave him his faith and commitment to God and family.

The love of Benny's life was his bride and childhood sweetheart, Norma Caballero. They became one on August 30, 1969 at a marriage ceremony held in Eagle Pass, Texas. Benny and Norma have been married almost 47 years.

Benny was preceded in death by his parents, Fortunato and Matilde Benavides. He is survived by his brother, David Benavides and his wife, Mille, of Eagle Pass, Texas; his sister Diana and her husband, Elias Urbina of Austin, Texas, and his sister Norma and her husband Juan Garcia of Hayes, Texas.

Benny's legacy will continue on with his beloved sons; Brian Benavides and his wife, Brandye, of Flower Mound, Texas; Steven Benavides and his wife, Kim, of Prosper, Texas and Kevin Benavides of Frisco, Texas. His legacy will also continue with his grandchildren Avery, Abbey, Jack, Jenny and Anna.
