LYNN McCRUM(1929 - 2015)
Lynn M. McCrum, a retired West Point Lieutenant Colonel, died peacefully on Memorial Day, Monday, May 25, 2015. He was 86 years old. Lynn was born in Sheldon, Iowa in 1929 and attended the United States Military Academy, graduated with the class of 1951 and served as Army Officer for 20 years. He commanded troops in the Korean and Vietnam Wars. Lynn received numerous military decorations and medals, including the Legion of Merit and Bronze Star. In 1951 Lynn married Kathleen Cummings, a fashion model from New York City. He was a licensed Civil Engineer and also had a Masters in Business Administration from Boston University. After retiring from the military in 1971, he moved his family to Briarcliff Manor, NY where he became the Village Manager for 30 years. He was highly respected and very well liked. Upon his retirement the Briarcliff baseball field was dedicated to him and named Lynn McCrum Field. He was truly an amazing man. While working in Briarcliff he attended Pace University and in his 70's received a Ph.D. in Finance. He was kind, generous, easy to talk to and humble in spite of his many achievements and accomplishments. He will be deeply missed by his family and all those who had the pleasure of knowing him. His wife, Kathy, passed away on September 11, 2014. While battling cancer, he lived with his oldest son, Lynn Jr. and family of El Paso Texas. He is survived by his five children and seven grandchildren. Funeral Services will be held at the Martin Funeral Home West in El Paso, Texas on Sunday May 31st at 12 noon, burial will be at Ft. Bliss National Cemetery on Monday June 1, 2015 at 10 a.m.
